Question about colon cancer?

Postby dhz » Sun Jan 11, 2009 7:19 pm

So I have been worrying about colon cancer off and on for over 3 months right now. From what I've been hearing getting symtoms with colon cancer usually doesn't happen later on right? So let's assume ribbon/penceil thin stool is a symtom of colon cancer like everyone else says it it. If I had colon cancer since I started worrying about it, wouldn' things have gotten a lot worse for me by now and I would have a lot of the other symtoms by now too?

When I got a physical I asked my doc about it and Basiclly he just gave me a fecal occult blood test, asked a few questions about if I was having symtoms for colon cancer, I said no to all of them. Then he was basiclly telling me I was too young to worry about it.

and I'm guessing since mailled the test in 17ish days ago, and havent heard back yet. I'm guessing the test didn't find anything.

I'm 20 BTW

dhz,

I'm 25 now but was diagnosed with Ulcerative Collitis when I was 22 or 23. The symptoms of this are basically the same of colon cancer:

Blood in stool samples
Frequent toilet visit (10+ times per day)
Thin stool samples
Mucous
Pain
Discomfort

Cancer can occur to anyone really, and it's not just an illness in the elderly/middle-aged.

What symptoms do you actually have?

Just the thin stool, and feeling like I need to crap a little bit more often without needing too.

I know that feeling. There are some days when I go just once or twice, but others where I can go around 15 times. Sometimes I get diarrhoea, and others I am constipated. Are you sure that there are no more symptoms? - Blood? Oh, do you feel a kind of uncomfortable feeling in yout colon too?

Sounds okay to me then. It could be that you are eating too little fibre in your diet. What exactly do you eat most days?

I usually drink a lot of water and nothing else, the only other thing I really drink from the iced tea from mc donald's and that's only when I'm working there.

I usally have eggs for breakfest.
I have peanutbutter and jelly crackers almost everyday.
I usually eat materaerlla cheese when I feel like it.
Almonds, bananas, doritoes and carrots are a common snack for me.
I usually have stuff like spegetti, chicken, tacoes, stuff like that for supper.
I also really like blueberries, blackberriers, raspberries, grapes, cherres, strawberries, starfruit. But I dont' get them anywhere near as much as I want them. About 2-3 times a week, and even then I don't get every thing from that list.
I usally also have freanch bread.
I also have Beef, Rice, Corn, and gravy on top of each other once - twice a week.
I usually have Taco Bell once a week: I get about 5 tacoes
I usually have Little Ceaser's once a week: I usually of have 3-4 pieces of their square hot and ready pizza(with hopefully a good portion of the grease removed)
I usually have have Mc donalds when I'm working a 6-8 hour shift(which isn't that often. I usally have 3 hanbergers and a medium fri when I do have it.)

Wow, you eat a lot of varied things - That's good! There is a good bit of fibre in all of that too, so, your faeces should be large and thick. Maybe it's the water - How much do you drink? Water acts as a lubricant but it can also break up bits of faeces into smaller bits.

As you can see, I'm quite used to talk about faeces! Having ulcerative collitis means that $#%^ is always around the corner in my life (both literally and non-literally!).

I'm no doctor but you don't present any of the core symptoms of it. So, I seriously doubt that you have it. If you're still worried about it, then look up the official symptoms of colon cancer on the Internet and tick an X beside each one that you don't have. i think you'll find that you'll be putting an X beside all of them.

Do you normally worry about having serious illnesses like you are with this one?
