Jo Ann. I can promise you one thing... YOU WILL NOT DIE I'm almost 26 yrs old and I've been dealing with anxiety for 10 yrs, well 10 yrs that i've been diagnosed with it. I have had all the sensations you are describing and much more. GAD is not fun at all, the symptoms can make you feel horrible, make you anticipate that worse case scenerio.

But it always ALWAYS goes away, even if it takes awhile for it to vanish it always will.

Have you ever sought out help for your anxiety, to learn coping methods etc?

sadgurl I love the avatar ;)

on topic I've been that way since I was 15 or so. What I have to do is schedule yearly checkups with my doctor so I don't imagine something is wrong with me - once they tell me I'm fine I just work on the anxiety mostly by focusing on other things. It's funny, I find when I'm playing a video game or something and I'm really into it, when it's over I sometimes think "wow I didnt feel anxious at all for those 2 hours" -.- haha. Focus on deep breathing, telling yourself that you're fine, you're not going to to die from this - you keep waking up every morning despite these feelings - and try to focus on something else. My doctor (and most everything else I've read) all say that regular exercise is a great way to reduce anxiety. Personally I find that I usually feel great during and after exercise. Try it.

thank you

Postby scaredmom » Mon Apr 24, 2006 7:47 pm

thank you both for your replies...it means so much to hear from other people who have made it through this. i am having all the symptoms of a heart attack lately especially yesterday. i am a christian and got home from church and jsut felt terrible. i had cramping in my chest and shoulder, tightness in my chest feeling like i couldn't breath etc. it was so painful. how do you know when you do need to get looked at and when it is just anxiety? i haven't had my heart tested but i did have head ct and some blood work and i just had a baby 9 mos ago so all the test they do for that. do i need more? i also have a lot of numbness like in my hands and mouth. this sickness sucks! :(

jo ann ya it can all be related to anxiety, everyone who suffers from anxiety fears that they are having a heart attack. Also muscle tension and soreness can also be related to anxiety. I deal with sore tight muscles daily because i'm so tense. The best thing I learned to do for my tightness in my chest is to pull back your shoulder blades, it opens up your ribs and makes it easier to breathe.
It never hurts to get looked at when you feel like this, at least then you can rule out anything else through routine bloodwsork etc. Numbness/tingling around the face and mouth, and other extremeties is also anxiety related, it's scary, but as long as you can feel it even if it's uncomfortable you wont have to worry. Being a new mom can be an anxious time as well with a new baby in the house...

hope that helps.

*hugs*

Ah I'm sure you are fine and you don't *need* either, but if it will make you FEEL better, then maybe you should get it just for your own mind's sake. I never had an ECG though I was worried about my heart once - all it took for me personally was a regular doctor to say that it "sounded" fine and boom my mind got off the 'fact' that I had a heart problem and I haven't worried about my heart much at all since.

It's fine to wait since you are not going to die from panic disorder. The only problem is your mind telling you that your body is sick when it isn't.

I feel the same way just woke up 2m ago a I have chest pains and numbness in legs, feet, arms, face all over. everyday I have some kind of numbness and I feel like I'm in a fog sometimes I get a shaky feeling inside and I just feel sick. not fun I have been having lots of test done because I cant believe that its panic attacks mri,ct,stress test ,ekg, eeg, never test, blood work all coming back good. I have my last appt this thr. I no they are going to tell me that they cant do anything for me and it could be my panic attack. I have wasted so much money on dr for this thing I have and it very hard to believe that it is painc attack that causes that numbness and fog feeling but I have to start thinking that is could be and stop thinking I have some sickness. I have a little girl and a great husband and I have no time to feel like this I just like you have nothing to be stress about. I feel better just knowing other people are feeling the same way. you are the first one I have read that has all the some things I'm going throught. I have hope that it just painc attack then I just need to learn how I'm going to get through it
