Overwhelmed yet relieved

Postby UKgal31 » Sun Oct 28, 2012 2:51 am

Hello. I am in the States so if my English is illustrated a little differently that is why.
Anyway, I was diagnosed with DID about 6 months ago and it completely freaked me out.
It hasn't been until this past week that I have started to identify my alters, although they've emerged at different times practically my whole life. I kind of always knew of
one in particular, but just recently 5 more have "introduced themselves", if you will. My Dr. said this would likely happen. She said when we were all ready, we would meet. And perhaps she is right. I do feel like I have come to a milestone in my treatment so now, I suppose, is the right time.
It has been quite overwhelming but at the same time, it has cleared so many things up! I almost have a feeling of relief...if that makes sense. I guess I was just curious to learn how others on here identified their alters and if anyone had the same experience "we" have had.

Thanks!!

Welcome to the DID Forum. Yes, all the feelings you describe about the diagnosis and discovery process sound familiar. Plenty of others newly arrived here have asked the same question and received the same answer.

When you have DID the diagnosis makes so much sense, explains so much that before had no explanation. Why do we have fits of doubt about our diagnosis? Because that's how denial works! I cannot even begin to imagine how difficult denial must be for people who are not multiples.

Thank you for your reply. It gives me so much hope to know that "we" are not alone.
