TRIGGER WARNING~ never really thought I heard voices because they were all in my head and not audible,
But they say random things during a conversation even if I'm listening to the other person (I sometimes get a visual hallucination) where I see me saying this to another person as if it's a command or seeing in the future kinda thing. And it's usually about a complete different subject. These voices are way calmer when they're random.
However one internal voices gets louder when I'm stressed and it becomes more believable, also they speak in second and third person unless they are close to the surface Which makes it harder to gain control and stop switching. . e.g saying "I can't do this" "how do you expect me to get over this" "if they really loved you" "I want to start basketball" "sea otters hold hands when they float" "go and make him tea" "CIGARETTE" some examples of how different they are
Even though my thoughts and their voices are almost identical in how they lack physical sound I can tell the difference by how strong they are and how much space they take up for mind. For me right now if I say to myself I can't do this there's an ability to not become swallowed by that as it flows through he mind. whereas when I'm in a different state "I can't do this" becomes a fact not a thought through the mind and it just appears where a thought seems more natural and less sudden like you just been shot

Hope this helps!! Please tell me others experience this lol.

I sinetimes get continuous music and a lot of static noise that I'm not sure is them or not.
I also have had times where I've heard external voices or music (usually a crowd) but these are much rarer and magbe not even did related imo

But yeah mainly internal which causes way more chaos because one cannot differentiate if it's a real emotion or not.

I (the host I guess) hear whispering most of the time, don't have discussions, maybe because I'm not full DID. Mostly I switch into different parts and they talk to themselves and I believe I am them, hence one moment I think "everything is $#%^, why must I suffer so" and the next "I'm so perfect, everything will be awesome and great!" - but on the other hand that's how normal people operate as well, I guess they just have the one person who one minute think they're crap and the next they're not.

When your alters are speaking, what does it sound like? Like a normal person?

Well, people use to think that I can hear them like when someone outside speak to me, but is more like an internal voice in my head. Like an independent thought. When you're thinking about something, you think with a voice even when you don't speak (like when you're reading this if you're not doing it in loud voice). But you cannot control it, and that inner voices can even interrupt your thoughts and even other inner voices there. They can also have own "voices" there.

Are you able to carry on conversations?

Depending on the moment and how many people is speaking. We are five in the system, and I can assure you that random inner conversations at 4:00 am or during an exam is not funny at all.
