Alter behavior question "trigger"

Postby mow59 » Mon Apr 16, 2012 1:45 am

Non DID here, tri
hi, everyone, I know someone i suspect has DID (unaware), stepdaughter. She was in a relationship that ended up in her getting slapped. She left him for about a year and half... During this time when she was out of the relationship, one or two of her little alters would blurt out things to me or ask me questions at times. they seemed to trust me and want to let me know they were there.
I enjoyed their time and would bring tootsies pops for them... could tell by the way they grabbed them that it was the littles.. lately I notice that they hadn't come around as much. I found out that she is starting to see the same person again. I believe that she will have the same ending. Almost like repeating the same behavior.
I believe an alter that I recognize as a protective alter has come around again. Very defensive towards me,, but will listen at times. They seem to want to suppress the littles around me. At one time actually telling me, " you wont see that inner child again" questions is.
your opinions on why this may be happening? why would i be OK with the littles one minute,, then a second alter blocking me from the littles from talking to me the next.
I realize that this is an open end question... just would like some opinions to think upon,, thanks all.

Changing behavior is one of the mysteries of DID. As the person's environment changes, the system dynamics change too. Some alters become more active and/or stronger, relative to others. If your stepdaugher is in social situations that strong insiders see as perilous, the whole system may become more guarded. This unfortunately tends to have the opposite effect from what is intended. The intent is to keep us safe, but using dissociation to guard vulnerable alters means that the alters we expose to danger, and the body, are left unguarded, unaware, and far more vulnerable than if we were integrated. In this sense we make ourselves walking victims who in effect are inviting abuse.

thank you Una,,, that makes a whole lot of sense in the situation.. She seems to repeat the same behaviors in relationships and always the same results...your explanation makes allot of sense.
I dont want to play the meddling person in this, just hate seeing here hurt again. Maybe I can some subtle comments, maybe able to let her have a different perspective to reflect what you said above. One popped into my head as I read you answer... like a back injury that gets protected by the muscles tightening up,,, which in affect puts more pressure on the injury,, more hurt,,, so muscles tighten up more..... its a catch 22,,, untill someone realizes whats going on ... Happened to someone i knew......Thank you again.... Still patient here.......
