So I read that DID has a prevalence of 1% in the population. 1 in 100 people, that's quite a lot. But if each person with DID has say 10 alters, that should be 10% right there! And what is that person has 200 alters or more? Would that mean 200 out of every 100 people live with DID? What if, with all our alters, we outnumber the regular people??
I'm just being silly. But it is surprising to me how common it actually is, when it usually seems to be viewed as an exotic condition, or so rare as to be inconsequential or freakish. It means we all probably know or have met another person with DID, even if we didn't know it. I can only hope it's a sign that DID and other dissociative disorders will start to get the level of recognition and acceptance it needs.
