alters switching , what happens inside after "Trigger"

Postby mow59 » Sun Jan 22, 2012 3:59 pm

Hello, Non DID here,
I'm going to simplify this question, but it could deal with many situations concerning many subjects, stress etc.
If an alter is out and is asked " do you like Red or Blue" and for some reason , stress causes a new alter to take over before the question is answered.
Will the original alter inside realize that they didn't answer the question and go thru a thought process to answer the question or situation for a later time?
Or just forget about the question and do what it does normally inside. And pick up in the new situation when they front again?
Hope this makes sense,, thanks....

I guess that depends on whether the person was co-con or not, or over all internal awareness.

Sometimes I'll forget a question was asked and just carry on, or other times it's like a foggy dream of a question, then I'll try to answer it, but I'll be like "what?"or slightly disoriented. Or I'll hazily remember later to ask a question only to already have done it. I feel bad for the SOs.

I have alters that would and then tell the 'out' alter to tell them they think 'red' or something or they will take over again and reply. It depends on the alters, and the internal awareness from my experiences. I was wondering, I blackout, but is there away through therapy and healing that I can into my inner world when I switch as my other alters can?
I hope you don't mind me asking on your thread, I am hoping it it's ok, as it's related.

Mow59, the answer to your questions will vary from alter to alter, and there is a lot of individual variation, even within a single DID system.

When I am not in front usually I am losing time. If I am not too disoriented when I "come to" I think I would continue right where I left off, unaware of anything that happened during my lost time. I don't get "inside" information about what happened while I was unconscious. Although I am unconscious when not fronting, it appears that at least some of my alters frequently are conscious while inside. As far as I know, they experience the inner world just as I do: it is a void. A nothingness. No light, no sensation of any kind.

When I'm not fronting, I'm either in the body watching (co-con), in a void of nothingness, or outside of the body watching from across the room. Yes, I know the last one is freaky. It happens a lot though.

So if I were asked something and a switch happened, as long as I'm not in nothingness I could tell the one that is fronting what my answer is. It would then be their choice to give my answer or answer it themselves.

When I'm across the room though, I'm usually pretty out of it and detached from the world.

When I'm fronting (which is most of the time), others can chime in through me. Sometimes that comes by them telling me and then I say if I want, or them interrupting me and saying it outloud. The latter causes embarrasement for me though, depending on the situation, and so I try to encourage the system to avoid that.

I don't know if this is just me, but when I am inside and not fronting, our inner world is like a large house. There is a garden and a stream and lake and all the different rooms. If I'm in the meeting room (upstairs near the bedrooms) then I can see and hear everything that's going on and talk to whoever's fronting but not control anything. If I'm elsewhere then I don't know what's going on. Sometimes when I come back I know I've been in the house, sometimes I know I've been watching and sometimes I don't remember anything at all. My others tell me that we all go to the house when we're not fronting but that sometimes I just don't remember it.

As for questions most of us go in and out through the meeting room so we're in contact as the switch happens and can therefore always tell whoever's fronting the answer. As far as I can tell though it varies from person to person and alter to alter.
