Check-in and Expanded diagnosis likely

Postby epluribusunum » Wed Nov 23, 2011 5:36 am

Hi, all!

For the most part, we're doing OK and dealing OK with buying a home by staying in today and not worrying too much about what may or may not happen in the next day or week. My husband helps tremendously!

My T and I have only recently determined that one (maybe two) of my alters has OCD while the others don't. We have already begun dealing with the OCD through talk therapy.

My T is not in favor of medical treatment as a first resort; for example, we talked a lot for a long time before I went on SSRI's, and then it was with an eye toward bridging a gap while I worked through things in talk therapy. I'm in agreement with that.

So, it was a bit of a surprise when he shared with me his thoughts about consulting with my psych about looking into some meds to assist with OCD and see if we can lessen the symptoms.

It's tricky since not everybody in my constellation presents with OCD. Still, I pay the price for the OCD so if we can figure out how to reduce the impact, that will be a worthwhile effort. I'm OK with a trial med regimen.

DID is complex, confusing, and fascinating!

I was put on SSRI for OCD (amongst other things) and I tell you what, it helped tremendously. I've been on the same SSRI now for 9 years. I'm not a fan of being on medication long term but it just sort of happened and now I dread to think how I'd be without it...

Still - it all sounds like you and your T are doing some really positive work and moving forwards together brilliantly. Sounds great.

It sounds like your T is being very helpful in thinking of ways to help you with this problem. We are on an anti-depressant and anti-anxiety too and it helps a lot.

We have one that has OCD but only in one particular area and so we figure that to work through that, we need to know what caused that particular problem (we can tell by what the OCD is related to that it must have something to do with a trauma at some stage). For the moment, fortunately we are able to avoid the thing that gives us OCD but it would be very difficult if we couldn't. So I can certainly feel for you in that regard...

I hope you find the new treatment helps. I look forward to you letting us know how you go with it. :D

Thanks, salted lipstick, and bourbon, for your replies.

I met with my T today and we talked a bit more, also about how the discussions are affecting the alters involved.

Maybe upping my current SSRI will help with the OCD instead of having to add another medication. I'm on a low dose. We'll see what my T and psych and I decide in the days to come.

I am so grateful for your understanding.

Sounds like you had a productive session. :D

Hopefully upping your current meds will be a viable solution. Give it a few weeks and I would think you will notice a difference hopefully. All the best with it. :D
