Starting a Webcomic with a Super-hero who has D.I.D.

Postby RebekahRin » Mon Aug 01, 2011 4:04 pm

Hey there, all!~

So, I'm a complete comic book/manga dork, and I know several comic book characters who have dual-personalities and D.I.D., however, DUAL is not quite MULTIPLE and all the characters who "officially" have D.I.D. (that I've seen / heard of, anyway) are all BAD or end up becoming villains.

This irritates me.

Along with the fact that I've not ONCE found a movie that shows D.I.D. *NOT* ruining someone's life or having it be ridiculously frightening.
Along with Hollywood movies, comic book villains, and the end of The United States of Tara, I got kind of irritated.

Thus, I decided I was going to fix it because I had an idea for a comic - basically, a superheroine with D.I.D. - it's developed a lot more since then but I don't want to give anything away ^_^
But, I've hired an artist and once I've got several pages in a buffer state, I'm going to buy a domain name and make it a webcomic. I thought that people here might be particularly interested in such a thing.

Also, I found a comic book hero called Badger who seems to have D.I.D. (whereas a lot of the other characters are actually two beings in one body lol) - I haven't read it yet, but for those other comic nerds who may not have known about him, you can check that comic out.

I thought it was about time we have a GOOD representation of D.I.D. in the media :3

This sounds awesome! I've always thought about doing something like this, too.

I've gotten really sick of seeing the media portraying D.I.D. as such an awful thing... Sure, it's difficult at times, but I actually enjoy it! Everything would be so much more boring without my alters, in my opinion! :P

I hope it's a big success and I look forward to reading it someday! :D

I agree!~ A lot of my alters can do things I can't (or at least have the confidence to try) and thus...yeah. The characters are basically me and my alters but to the ridiculously extreme XD

I'll probably post again or a new thread when it *finally* comes out, but I wanted a positive light on D.I.D. for once so I decided "er, why wait? I'm a writer..."
And there it is x3

Of course, due to it being about a superhero, I'm going to be delving into science and such to explain her power, but it's going to be super fun to write and I already have the artist working on the cover page ^^

Aw, that sounds like an awesome idea. I look forward to it. c:

I was planning on writing a novel with a character with DID, I've been working out all the little details and plots of it for months now. It would kind of be based on experiences I've had with my boyfriend and his others, but I would change everything and make it more into an actual novel rather than sounding like I'm putting our life story onto paper. XD It would also probably be more of a series than just one novel. (Anyone here can probably tell from reading my posts, I'm definitely a writer, I never stop writing, ahaha)

Cool, I want to see it as soon as you have it on the website!

I found an old novel sketch of mine that I hadn't finished. I had forgotten about it but remembered when I read it... it was about a boy who notices that his best friend had disappeared. He finds a note from the friend where he explains he had to leave in a rush, and his family and friends seem to be unaware of who this friend is. I had written it up until the boy lands in trouble with his family and teachers for insisting that the friend exists. I remember that I was inspired to write it but stopped it because I didn't know what to write then. I think I do now! 8)

I will definitely post it once the site is up :3
The artist actually got me the first sketch today and it looks AMAZING ^_^
She honestly would fit really well into the X-men universe lol =D

I havent read all of the posts, only the first one (sorry, I'm in a hurry right now ^-^)
But i would love to see that, i have been planing to do the same for a while, but i cant draw =P
Though, i've seen a manga (japanese cominc) called Change 123, or Change HiFuMi, or just Hifumi, that is about a girl with 3 more alters, and is about a funny love story, amopng other stuff. Though, be careful, cause it has some "adult" themes (actually, images). Not hentai, but procceed with caution.
You should read it, if you are already an adult ^-^
Oh, but i havent read it to the end yet, so I will not assure a correct representation of D.I.D. It's just that, so fa,r it was good enough for me ^-^

Hifumi sounds rather interesting ^_^ Yeah, I'd love to read that too lol I'm always looking for positive light things.

Yeah; I don't want to give too much away because if I say a bit you'll prolly figure it out right quick but the fun thing is she not only has human alters but there's a white wolf as well who is actually the main character's spirit guide that manifests into an alter.
She also has a past life alter - a French Revolutionary.
One of other alters is the only other one who actually *HAS* a power besides Riley, and happens to be a mystic.

I'm calling it "The Core"...for obvious reasons :3

That sounds so cool! I've always wanted to do something like that. Katherine and I are writing a fantasy novel where the main character has DID, but since the world is so different from ours, the character's DID can't actually relate to much of anything over here. Not unless we can randomly clone ourselves to get our own bodies or find a way to split our souls completely, haha.

So tell us when it's ready to read! It sounds awesome.
