New here, and to this...

Postby Thrace821219 » Sun Jul 24, 2011 6:55 pm

Just wanted to introduce myself. (Myself??) I am a young, and have been diagnosed with a few things in the past. The first diagnoses was rapid-cycling bipolar disorder, and then panic disorder, and then dependent personality disorder. Then it was changed to panic/anxiety, and borderline personality. Then I was looked at as a compulsive liar, sociopathic tendencies. Then I realized and so did new therapist, that I have jack for a good memory. I am always confused, and I change severely over time a lot. So now we are looking into DIDS...and I am wondering if it's possible to have been living with this...I'm still a little foggy on the whole thing...my therapist and I are working on "emotional regulation" but I'm a little skeptical. I don't think mine is the "movie type" DIDS, but I also don't want to just ignore it if it's there...and not get help. Anyhow thanks for listening, it will be nice meeting you all and I look forward to speaking with you!

First of all, welcome to the group! This is a great place to come, talk, and get support and feedback.

Your story sounds a bit like mine. First I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder. Then it was generalized anxiety disorder. Then it was PTSD (which I still think is accurate), then it was bipolar, then it was borderline personality disorder, and then finally, a few months ago, it was DID. It's actually not uncommon for someone who has DID to be diagnosed with a number of other disorders before the DID is recognized.

As you learn more (and spend time on here) you'll learn that the movie DID as you call it isn't an accurate depiction of what DID most often looks like.

Keep asking questions and sharing more about your experiences on here. People are always willing to share their thoughts and support. I think you've come to the right place!

Thank you so much, I'm a little nervous...I don't exactly know as much about dids as I'd like...and some of the terms I've read on here are foreign. I can't use the term "we" without getting a strange bout of panic...so I just say I. I'm not sure how to begin to live with this and how to communicate with the other pieces of me...or alters I guess.........I'm nervous, terrified...just feeling a little at odds. Thanks again for the warm welcome!!

Welcome to the forum, Thrace. Don't worry, this is new to many of us. I for one haven't been diagnosed at all and when I joined this forum I felt like a complete idiot, sometimes still do. :D
But people here have been very understanding and helpful, and there is loads of good and valid information on DID, links and tests.

I'm not sure if I even have DID, perhaps DDNOS is more likely in my case. I'm hoping to find out eventually, with the help of professionals. Nevertheless, this is a good place to be in the meantime.

DDNOS stands for Dissociative Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. If you don't fit all of the requirements to be diagnosed with any of the dissociative disorders (one being DID), you are diagnosed with DDNOS. For instance, if you have alters, but don't lose time, you'll be diagnosed with DDNOS.
