How to stop an alter from snarling and/or growling

Read the title. Now back to me. Now back to the title, now back to me. Now ask your most violent alter "WTF?", and tell me what they say.

Have you asked your alter why the snarling and growling? And have you asked your alter to please stop doing it in whatever situations are causing problems for you? Try to be curious, empathetic, understanding, accepting. Try not to be controlling, hostile, fearful, etc. Aim for loving kindness.

My boyfriend's angry personality Johnny (the defender) growls a lot, and for a lot of different reasons. There's the demonic-enraged-don't-f***-with-me warning growl with usually means the possibility someone's going to get hurt, the I'm-irritated/frustrated-and-you're-pushing-my-buttons warning growl with means whoever or whatever is angering him needs to stop immediately or it's going to become the demonic-enraged one, there's the I'm-mildy-annoyed-but-I'm-going-to-humor-you growl which is generally directed at me or his close friends if Johann's being teased for something (like being overweight), there's the content growl when he's actually calm, and there's a generally soft growling undertone to Johnny breathing pattern regardless of what he's doing/feeling (which might have something to do with the way Johann's asthma affects Johnny, but still).

Have you noticed a particular reason for them to be growling or snarling?

TK only communicates through growling and snarling out loud. Inside, he sounds more snarl-y, but thats it. No real reason, I guess. At least not that I can find.

I'm Zack, the humanoid of this system. ^^ I communicate with growls, snarls and body language when I feel threatened or if I'm not sure of something.

I don't really like this humming grey thing my host uses: she says it's a PC. I don't trust these living rocks! So I'll growl at them and I'd like to bite them...just in case they jump at me! I warn them not to come too close.

That was a bit off-topic but you got the idea of my primal language. When I first came, I was unsure of everybody but I was also curious to join the group 'aka' system. My host and others let me explore the system on my own and have my personal space. They didn't try to touch me or approach me - they simply let me do my thing. Then in time I started to trust others and now I'm feeling safe and happy in here!

Maybe you could try doing the same with your alter? Be careful though, it might not work with your system! But it's worth a shot... Let the alter come to you and don't approach him/her yourself.

The best way to get to know primal and animalistic alters is to let them guide you at first! At least this is what works with my system. I hope the best for you and your alter! ^^

Great...now Zack is getting all predatory over my PC. xD I've been trying to introduce this "living rock" for him but with no results. I guess I just need to keep these two away from each other!

Zack is roaming around somewhere so I'm answering this question.

Simply study and listen to him! Try to read his bodylanguage and learn his ways to communicate with you and others. If he growls when you go too near, keep your distance. If he gets curious when you show him your back, try doing that more often and ask other alters to do that too. If he doesn't want to be touched, but likes to touch you, keep your hands with akimbo and so on...

He'll tell you what he wants. ^^ It might be tricky at first but I'm sure that you can figure out his patterns and such.
