hi I new here
I thot that was a great list. I giggled over the Single Personality Disorder :D might account for some commenting on Dr Phil that say we all liers and fakes :?

I guess ISH would be me but I out a lot, I keep everyone safe so I always check things first before I bring them out, I like helping so on places like this it is mostly me writing.
The T calls me the "system protector," I had a problem with "protector" cuz I thot about it like the first part of your description, or the body protector. Sometimes I go by "system helper"
the only other protectors we have are body protectors, altho one mostly protects us from the bad alters inside. You have another name for bad alters? I know some call them dark alters.

I think you left out "Non-Gender," an alter that does not have a gender. Our main protector is like that. Also is the norm for the other one you left out, "the controller"

all in all I thot it was great

I think "slider" is also missing, I am one, it is an alter that can slide between ages when needed.

I am new here so still figuring my way around, I answered to the first page of this thread before I seen how many pages there was :)

I no sure for certain if anyone answer you but yes there are co-hosts Our old host was very fragle and would easily dissociate at the slightest thing, he also had a lot of depression so would dissapear for long periods of time. At first the protector and me would try to fill in but even the protector no like to pretend to be the host and I prefer being a little so of course I felt very uncomfortable pretending to be an old person. I brought back an alter who had left and made him the co-host or substitute host. It remained that way until the old host joined with the first one. The host we have now no need anyone to take his place but he does like to have a little time out, he comes back if we have to talk with a singleton.

Thank you so much for this. I am especially thankful for the part at the end "Structural dissociation of the personality." I have often wondered why I am so different from some of my other alters. It would be because I am the primary "apparently normal". Daily life is my duty, I have huge gaps in memory and emotions don't stick for me, and can be hard for me to understand. I'm glad to hear an explanation for this.

The primary function of the ANP is to adequately function in daily life, which would not be possible if unintegrated trauma was intruding. Thus, the ANP is fixated in avoidance of the trauma, detachment, some degree of amnesia or other lack of realization, retraction of the field of consciousness to issues of daily life that excludes trauma and related stimuli, and emotional and physical numbing."

Wow, that was very thorough. We now have a good DID doc. Who is helping us. I think we are learning to get to know each other. There are a lot of unanswered questions, blocks and blocks of memory time of the unknown.

Was diagnosed in 2001 and had a good therapist who got me/us working/integrated again. Then in January 2009 we were diagnosed with breast cancer and I started to fracture. To top that off, in January 2011 we were in a serious auto accident where I needed brain surgery. My fracturing was big time then and have been struggling since. But, the work with the DID doc has been very good and supportive and safe and understanding.

But, back to your DID word meanings and acronyms, it has helped shed light on a very dark and unknown area of my life. I am just beginning to sort out this personality puzzle in my mind.

Every part has a part to do.

Regards,
Juner

Sorry to quote train here but...oh my. That holds true for me, as well, and I never knew. I also wondered why I was so different, and why I don't hold and retain much emotion. Because my job is also to function in daily life. The only times I can't function that well is when some of the emotion and behavior interfere. Wow. This is actually validating part of this, I can't thank you enough, both of you, for writing what you have. When things make sense, I feel more at ease.

I love the list

I don't know if anyone else has something like this, but I am what's (in my system) called a EA (Emotional Artist). I write stories, poëms, etc. about things that happened to me and other alters, to make an attempt of someone asking if anything is wrong. these are mostly problems that are hard to keep inside, but painful to make it known verbally. By writing down what happened I can just point at the writing and say "that's wrong, that happened". So simple an alternative way of telling you've got a problem in case telling won't be a possibility.

I never heard the word Singleton before, but I love it. makes me think of somelink like:
"who says I am wierd because I have multiple personalities? maybe you are wierd because you only have one" 8)

EDIT: I now noticed that I did hear that term before, just in my own native language, which is a completely different word, my bad

Here is a terminology list I have been working on. It is not finished yet, but it has a lot there already.

HI,
I try to read in this forum, but have always felt I wasnt intellectual or articulate to join. I took notes on the word meanings and acronyms. I have a hard time concentrating and I think I understand ANPs and EPs. Could someone please re-define them . I can see A LOT of work went into making the list and the explanations. Are EPs the others who hold the emotions? Are ANPS the ones who are unaware of the bad stuff and therefore have better functioning in the outer world? I am embarassed that I may be way off. DX'd 10 years ago. I hope i can navigate this site. Thanks
