Can an Alter be a Gatekeeper?

Postby nickip212 » Sat May 28, 2011 1:45 am

I was wondering if an Alter can be a Gatekeeper or something along the lines of being in charge of who can come oue when if its ok with the Host?

Has anyone ever heard of that?

The last time I heard the term "Gatekeeper" in terms of DID was when reading "When Rabbit Howls" in an English class a few months back. Christ, that book has come up a lot recently...

Anyways, I don't think there are accepted or well known or even unspoken/unwritten rules on the subject matter, so I'd assume safely, yes, an alter could be in charge. I don't know why, but sure, I guess its plausible.

in a very short answer: yes ther are and can be gatekeepers, there can be many keepers to a system. Some protect certain parts while others protect or control other stuff like who gets to know what secrets ,that kind of thing...

i have a gatekeeper that you're talking about. Basically he controls all switches (well, he says he does lol) and he is like 'god' inside. No real body, but can see and know all. Knows who is best for what situation etc and is in charge of switching, shared info, who keeps what secrets and helps and advises the ISH.

Anything is possible in DID. Theres a good list of types of alters on this board and theres also a good list on the blog called "Duscussing Dissociation". Its helped me heaps to put 'roles' to my alters, and get to know them and why they're here.

hope this helps.

[may trigger]

I met the "Gatekeeper" in December 2015 after I tried to commit suicide. My husband took me to my Dr. Office two days later, (he hid it because I have PTSD because of a hospital experience. Both are long stories.) When I walked into her office, I Rembrandt it was VERY crowded, although later after asking who was there it was only me, my husband and my Dr. I liked toward the door and "saw" the Gatekeeper. I can describe him very distinctly, although he was not in solid form and apparently no one else could see him. He was there with the "others" whom I have not met except for 4 to make them "bare witness to what they had allowed to happen to the host. Until recently I could not figure out WHY the Gatekeeper HIMSELF did not intervene. Then it was clear, at least to my way of thinking. My husband NEVER gets up at night. He sleeps like the proverbial dead. For some reason he did that night, very shortly after I had taken an overdose *mod edit*. He has never talked about it, but I do know it wasn't long afterward. Is it possible that the Gatekeeper's role was to alert him? Who knows, I haven't seen him (and it IS a him) since. Yes, he is an alter, but the role is to keep the other in check, I guess. They have only recently made themselves known since my trauma at the hospital, and my Dr. has only recently much to my fighting it, (and continue to all the time, then accept, then fight blah blah) Hope this helps someone!
