Can't focus at work, new alter is driving me crazy!!

Postby walden » Thu Dec 09, 2010 4:01 pm

The last 2 days have been tough. An emerging male (Still haven't gotten a name), almost only communicates thru music. He will make comments about whats going on with his voice, but most of time he plays music that comes thru just like the voices. Its dirivng me crazy! I have his music and 2 others at the moment. Anyone else deal with something like this? He has been with me since the 5th grade. I remember a strange episode (i had no idea what was going on) where he talked with mne and we agreed to just play music. It mostly disappeared until the recent months. Can't make it stop, and its getting to be impossible to get work done.

If you listen to music on CD player or MP3 player or whatever music player you may have.. if you listen to music whilst you need to concentrate on something it may comfort him or occupy him so he lets you get some peace.

See if you can appeal to his vanity and flatter him into playing songs you like?

I know how that goes... Shirley likes to insult me although I know she doesn't really mean it most the time... it's just a background noise. I try to keep my voices from staying with me while i'm at work

LA LA LA LA LA
lalalalala
la la la la

Um... that was Shirley. lol, im not sure what she, oh, wait, ha, she was making a joke. It's really serious, though, what your alter is doing because it's interfering with your work. See if you see what he wants from you,

and about the two others, do you mean they all talk to you, or they both play music too?

anyway, I go looking for them after I finish and let them know I care about them, want to be with them and all that, and above all I do my very best to keep my word so they feel they can trust me.

The first thing, really, is you need to set up some rules/boundaries that are for the good of everyone. In my experience it is hard at first but they will come to respect the rules if you are consistent and fair and explain things to them, treat them with respect.

P.S Grounding techniques and Mantras really help me.

If they're talking to you when they shouldn't be, don't talk back and use grounding techniques and try to focus. However if they are worried or angry or just, whatever, and it's during a time you can talk, I use mantras to combat their words with the truth, and spend time explaining things to them.

We are all equal, but I happen to be in charge.

Hello,

I'm a singer too, sing constantly. Emily is sort-of alright with it, Heather finds it insanely irritating and begs me to shut up. So the compromise we got to is that I sing whenever I want to, on the condition that I then obey Heather's internal rules of engagement (not forcing front, etc etc etc and whatever). It works, kinda. She still finds it annoying and I still ignore her. So it's alright.

I deal with this too. One of my alters is bipolar so he can get very cheery. I don't mind it so much, but Jef does. Jef just lets him take front and get out any excess energy.

Small question (sorry to deflect) - so alters can have other mental issues too? Like bipolar, bpd etc? I can't quite work out whether or not that CAN work, or... yeah. Ta.
