PTSD & DID

Postby mosaicmonkey » Thu Jun 24, 2010 11:29 am

Just wanted some advice/help etc. I have DID - a system of 12/13 to be exact - so this isnt really in question. However I've seen a psychologist (only once to be fair) & he's suggested my diagnosis may well be PTSD. Although I havent said anything about my DID to him personally, it is in my notes from speaking to my care co-ordinator.

I dunno what Im asking really to be honest. Is it normal for DID symptoms to be confused with PTSD? I don't necessarily care what I'm diagnosed with as long as it helps us.

Confused with? No. Do the two tend to go hand in hand? Yes. But if you don't hold out the DID hand, you only get diagnosed for the PTSD. Only getting the PTSD diagnosis would only be half-diagnosing you, since he isn't accounting for the DID factor. Its like having twin kids and only naming one of them.

Well I've told my care coordinator so it is in my notes which he shouldve read before meeting me. That's what confused me as to why he's still going for PTSD. I'm totally confuzzed. Ah well.

Maybe he just wants to focus more on your PTSD than the DID. Maybe helping with the first will make helping with the other a little easier.

Or maybe he's just a moron. Who knows. Just work with him and see where it goes. Or maybe he wants you to bring it up. If you're not talking about it, he's not gonna start in on you about it. He might be assuming that if you don't talk about it, it's because you don't WANT to talk about it.

Good reasoning as always Bates :-)

Our system isn't really her problem & she's said anyway that she doesn't want integration so I don't know why she's stressing. She's such a worrier. Jeez!
