Are the voices, actual voices...or more like thoughts?

Postby mrslspinks » Thu Feb 28, 2008 1:39 pm

My husband has described the "voices" to be more like thoughts, but then he'll say that the others would call his name or talk to eachother... so is that an actual voice? And he said that some of them sound like him.

Inside the head, yeah, its some times hard to tell who's who cuz it is more like thoughts. Like its a distinguish thought seperate from your own, so you know it's not your's. Now it's just a matter of which alter said what now.

damn, i switched don't know what the f*** this is about. i hate it when that happens.

voices in my head, ok. yes everyone has their own voice. i remember when a child, thinking, i wish i could talk to everyone that way. you know, without having to say things out loud. that would be cool, no one could lie about things because their thoughts would speak for themselves, first.

Benny and Bates- thanks for the response. Ok, so it is more like a thought. I tried to think of it as something like when you read silently. You are reading, you hear the words that you are reading, with your own voice, but since it's "silent" they come through more like thoughts. Is that is what it's like? Do the voices/thoughts sound like your own voice or do they sound like someone else's?

For me, it's a distinct voice (or a whole lot of different distinct voices) but from inside my head. I don't know how else to explain it.
"A man goes far to find out what he is--
Death of the self in a long, tearless night,
All natural shapes blazing unnatural light.

Dark, dark my light, and darker my desire.
My soul, like some heat-maddened summer fly,
Keeps buzzing at the sill. Which I is I?"

My thoughts aren't in English. They're not in any language at all. They're sort of "raw" material that has no words. I just understand them.

When I read, I understand what I read without any voice in my head.

When someone else inside is processing what I read, I hear a voice reading out loud in my head. When I hear thoughts inside my head that are in a language, I know that they're not my thoughts.
