Self-Diagnosed?

Postby headberg00 » Wed Feb 20, 2008 3:37 am

I have heard that from a few of you and it makes wonder how sure you have DID if you never got diagnosed by a professional? I am pretty sure I have it yet I want to make sure by a doctor than just saying you have it. I know the mind is very complicated and the fact we onlyuse about 10% of our brains potential that leaves %90 of it to house other things we are unaware off thus personalities, memories, feelings, and other things. I tried to see my shrink ealier this week but he had no openings. I really want to tell him about this.
It's hard to stand when everyone pushes you down.

My therapist acknowledged my symptoms, but refused to diagnose because she deemed it unhealthy, she wasn't a supporter of generic psychiatry which puts everything in a box, said it wasn't healthy.

Problem is, to get an 'official' diagnosis in this country, I would need £500 :(

Other problem is that a lot of shrinks are not open to the subject, or are not trained in it. If your shrink refuses to acknowledge it, I suggest looking up someone who specialises in DID. Be prepared to pay a lot though, that's such a downside to it :(
-- So what then is this I?
Right now, as you read this, does it amount to anything more than a collection of thoughts and memories which are just transitory, and come and go in the mind like clouds in the sky? --

even though i was dx by a professional, there is still a lot to learn on the subject. i guess you could look at it the way they do in AA. there are many differing "professional" opinions when it comes to alcoholism. it doesn't matter how much or often you drank, but if drinking is causing a problem in you life, members in AA are there to help. only you know if you are an alcoholic. you don't need a dx to join.

also, the severity varies from person to person. i knew one women that only got drunk 5 times. but each time she drank, she couldn't stop at one drink. some would think she was not a "true" alcoholic. or, maybe she was smart enough to realize she was one, before she lost everything, or hit the low bottoms some of us did. me, i'm extremely luck i even lived long enough to crawl through the door. the whole town knew i was an alcoholic long before i did..
A WISE MAN ASKS MANY QUESTIONS.
AN OPEN MIND HOLDS MORE KNOWLEDGE. SEEK THE TRUTH, TO FIND YOURSELF.
