Did you know that everything is going to be okay?

Hey everyone. I wanted to share a thought with you that's kind of right and kind of wrong.

We have DID, whether we are ok with that or we aren't, and that means we're built out of many different components who all stand out from each other. These components are almost like real separate people with their own opinions, beliefs, styles and behaviours. Some behaviours are unhealthy, and some are healthy, but because DID is formed out of necessity, all of these alters are there for our benefit and not for our demise (even when they might want to destroy us).

There are some false beliefs in our alters because they don't perceive the world like hosts do. They are limited to dissociations which cause separation from reality and can even appear delusional. Some are so rigid in their thinking that they reject evidence that is contrary to their beliefs and perceptions (and then conclusive evidence causes their integration).

It's because they have a job to do, which means our brains are working correctly in the context of what we have all been through. We are dissociated, and we are (kind of) ok, because the memories that would sabotage our lives have been compartmentalized.

Our alters don't really hate us or each other. They just do what they have to do.

When we organize ourselves, when we listen to the needs and goals of our alters, we can show them that their job roles matter and are fulfilled. This means that they don't need to act out anymore.

By communicating with our alters, or by having a therapist communicate with them, they can understand reality better and function in more healthy and appropriate ways.

So although life is very hard, and sometimes dangerous for us, there is still hope that we will all be ok. It's the communication, acceptance and cooperation between ourselves as hosts and ourselves as alters that cause a healthy system structure. And a healthy system structure is a healthy life.
It's all going to be ok.

Hi,

Yeah. You're right. You got to get organized so everybody inside stops fighting and gets going with life. Systems can be really really good at life stuff but not when they don't get along.

Good luck,

When they say 'be yourself',
which one do they mean?

I just wish we could keep eachother and the people we cared for safe from the cruelties of the world.
