Have you ever?

Postby Rive » Sat Jun 08, 2019 1:55 am

Have you ever thought about doing something and that thought went away and then you thought about something else and then had your hands go up to do the thing you orginally thought and then became aware and was like oh crap why are my hands getting ready to do that thing? Example had a thought to pick up an enevelope then that you needed to add a drink packet to your water but then suddenly became aware you were back to going to pick up the envelope. Like you checked out for a minute the became aware again?

Yes, when I am very dissociated and foggy (depersonalized). When I first started therapy I was in an acute traumatic stress crisis due to a recent event and instead of helping me deal with that the first therapist I saw tried to explore my childhood trauma (bad therapist, bad!), pushing me into severe mental illness. I was completely new to therapy and had no idea what to expect so I stuck with that therapist much longer than I should have. With the premature uncovering I became so disorganized that I could not complete a load of laundry in a day. I would forget to start the washer, forget the wet clothes in the washer and find them days later, put wet clothes in the dryer and forget to start the dryer. Et cetera.

Now when I get like that I know it is time for me to take a break and do some self care. Get some light exercise, maybe take a bath or shower, stretch, relax, talk to a support person, read a good book.
