Testing New Therapist

Postby Silentfornow » Thu May 23, 2019 7:05 pm

Hello,

I'm curious to know how unhealthy or healthy this may be...

I'm going to see my new therapist today, but I am not the "host", rather, I am the one who functions well for the host, has no trauma, helps to raise the child, learns ways to be more psychologically healthy, and generally helps to complete the tasks of daily life in a healthy and productive way. I just want to test her, and see what she is up to.... it feels dishonest, so then I feel like I shouldn't go there, but then again, it feels like a way to protect our system. What's your take?

we would say go, and then use your mouth to ask the questions you need answers for. you can keep your identity for yourself for now, see if she notices, but don't play games. you will get the fastest results if you ask head on instead of expecting her to read minds.
you sound like an adult, you can talk to her like an adult without testing like a teen.

The initial few interviews are all about evaluating the fit. Is this therapist appropriate for you? Presumably you already know a little bit about the therapist. Someone recommended them. You looked them up. You talked to them on the phone briefly. Et cetera. So far so good.

I got as far as an initial interview with a lot of therapists, only to find most of them not suitable. Some were extremely not suitable. By way of example, one had never heard of DID, just checked a box on the therapist directory website and told me it didn't matter because all diagnosis was total nonsense anyway.

Hi,

There are games - like trying to get the T to do it wrong or act stupid. Then there is figuring out if this is a good T for you. That's ok. Like everybody says you should just ask about stuff. We started by asking about PTSD and trauma - didn't tell any secrets just let them know that's where we were coming from. I was handling it because Host didn't actually know we were going to therapy yet. We had to figure out how to let our T know about us AND how to let our host know about us AND not blow everything up in the process. That wasn't easy but we got there.

Good luck,

Iain

When they say 'be yourself',
which one do they mean?
