Music Dilemma

Postby GrayWolf » Thu Nov 23, 2017 1:08 am

Hello Everyone
GrayWolf here I have recently started playing the guitar once more I played when I was younger from age 5 until I was 18 after losing my gamma(grandmother) I gave up on my music and on my writing. I went back to my writing when I was 26 though I am having a little trouble with my guitar. I can play the Tango perfectly for hours on end. The thing is though when I go to work on another song I know or one I have written myself for I write my own songs. It starts off good I get about a third in to what I'm working on then it turns in to the Tango.
I'm not sure if its because one of the internal beings(alters) that I have wants to play the Tango or if one of them just wants me to play the Tango. I do know other songs after all I played the guitar for 13 years and often wrote my own songs. I would also learn to play the same songs as other musicians that people know of and sing to my gamma(grandmother) often. So I know a lot of songs other than the Tango I just don't know what is going on. I really do wish I knew what was going on for I would love to be able to play one of the songs I know or play one of the songs I have written.
Any advice will be great thank you for listening.
Have a wonderful day/night

Not much to do except to ask around inside, and see what they say.

That's cool you're picking up the guitar again! I wonder, what is the significance of the Tango that you keep returning to it? I agree that you should ask your inner people if any of them are involved with this, but ask them, too, what the Tango means to them. This pattern may be trauma-related, especially if playing the guitar is reminiscent of a sad time in your life.

Or happy, maybe one of the small ones feels safe when they hear it...

Right. ... I guess, in that case, allot time for the Tango and time for your own music, just like you do with other things concerning your internal beings.

nice to see fellow musicians! hmm...

we play guitar, but the advice that we wanna give is geared more toward our singing. we switch accidentally midsong if we don't keep up on it...

if... if... if you are able to pre-empt the next chord progressions in the song before it comes.. you could try that? we are able to delegate; we are singing one line but another of us has the next line preformed in our head to-sing, but it is not that that mult is taking over/taking us out of range.

with drifter-introjects (good ones) that happen-in from time to time.

Ah, musicians unite. It is fantastic that you are playing again. It can also be very confusing at first. I am a professional musician, flautist & singer. I always wondered how my playing and singing could vary so much from day to day or even performance moment to moment. It was not until I started to understand DID that it all started to make sense. It has been difficult but also a real blessing. I am now involved in such a wide range of musical styles and my vocal range is really wide. Depening on who’s singing, we have a different voice, sometimes classical, sometimes rock, sometimes gospel, sometimes pop. It has taken time to figure it out but it can be a real bonus for a musician to have a diverse range of options. Be kind to yourselves. I believe the advice already given is great. All I would add to it is don’t give up. Music can really smooth the soul. It’s worth figuring out how to make it work for all of you.

So glad you're playing again.

Advice already given is great!

The thing I was wondering, is any of the music connected in some way to the trauma? That might be some of the resistance from the parts.

Warmly,

Maybe someone in the system has some kind of personal connection to The Tango and might be afraid that if you focus on other pieces, The Tango will be forgotten? That could be it. Is there a specific chord that causes it to become The Tango or does it happen at random while trying to play a new piece?
