Hi - Friends come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and some just have no comprehension in how to support. Some people think that 'normalising' everything makes us feel better.....when to some extent it can, it can also hugely invalidate and make us feel like we don't exist. It gets further complicated because we often doubt ourselves and berate ourselves for not just being able to be and at times the person that somebody else is used to or might expect. (Don't know if this is making any sense).

I have a lamp lady who I can't see properly but she has the presence of an angel and also another woman who only has a head - her head is made out of leaves and she falls to pieces every time she smiles. These are part of our dissociation but don't know how they were constructed but if I try to say they don't exist them then we are told 'we are still here' so they are obviously needed to keep things safe.

As people before have said you do not have to justify your self to other people -

Hearing comments like this can be very hurtful to alters and that's not always immediately apparent. It may be creating a divide if GrayWolf isn't vigorously rejecting them.

To the 'friend,' I would say, look, stop, you're not educated about this issue at all. You've had no professional training about dissociative disorders. If you want to be friends, stop trying to vote on my reality. You don't get to do that!

But that's just us.

I agree with Johnny-Jack here but understand that having friends is important and it is not always easy to just find new supportive friends and having DID even with a very active internal world can be very lonely.
