Trigger warning. Question about triggers.

Postby moonlightmagic » Sat Mar 11, 2017 2:48 pm

Hi all.
Im very much struggling with triggers, again. My question is maby a bit more of specially for people who have knowledge of ritual-abuse or something.. im curious if there is possibility for having constant triggers from disney movies and having ritual flashback without really having a background of ritual abuse ?? I feel like it's just in my head? I regonised few words which gave me flashbacks and bodymemories. Is it ok to share those words here? Im very alone in this situation. Thank you all.

Hi Moonlightmagic,
we know about triggers from Disney movies.
with certain abuser groups these are often used for programming.
certain inner reactions get connected to cartoon characters, names or key words.
these reactions could get triggered when you see or hear the code words/pictures.
some of the reactions that can get triggered are "flooding" with memories or physcial memories of abuse.
sometimes the learned reactions are feeling foggy or a sudden certainty that "I am just making this up", the most common must be "dont speak" and "remember to forget"
if you want to share code words it would be fair to add a big trigger warning. some abuser groups use the same code and it could cause a learned reaction in others too.
welcome to the forum!

i wouldnt recommend sharing too much details. this is the internet and not everyone is well meaning. if you have been programmed this would make you incredibly vulnerable too all kinds of manipulation

Thank you kindly. Wise words, I appreciate. Yes, it is my experience for memories flooding after seeing or hearing certain words and / pictures. This helps a lot for understanding.

Myabe similar I've/they had bodily sensations from survivors that aren't our background but rather from the alters that got created. In our own alters from when we we're young on top of that as if ours wasn't enough. I think you have to ask for what is not ours to stop ask a therapist on perspective of it. Could be they are working together some how with our littles. It is best to differentiate who the body sensations actually belong to . I don't actually know about ritual abuse triggers although much but in general getting rid of the stimuli externally sound sight image etc usually help with reduction. Coming to terms with what already happened showing them fear is valid when we allow you feel that in a respectful time and place is what we would want since most is inevitable. Applaud them for bravery and strength despite the shame.
