Went to therapy.... Do alters hide???

Postby Me13 » Mon Dec 08, 2014 12:10 am

Hi, I was able to contact a specialist in my area to help my gf and I understand her DID. We saw her Monday. This was almost a week ago and I have not seen her alter mode in full fronting, only a few co-moments for a minute or two. I figured she would want to come out and fight with me about the therapy. She normally shows a few times a week at bedtime. I am a little concerned, I am not sure if she can/is hiding or maybe she is upset? I would be really sad if she thinks we are trying to get rid of her, the therapist said she isn't going to make her leave, just work better as a team. Anyway, when she does decide to come out of where she goes, any advice on the hiding thing or how to approach her about therapy??

She could be... personally, I had one alter who went to therapy exclusively for several months because she so desired to be good for T, and none of my others' voices were heard.

I think her alter may need to feel safe to come out in therapy. That takes time to build a good alliance.

Could she be mad at me or hiding from me? Should I be concerned?

Sounds like a really good therapy. Regarding Mode, you could write her a note, and leave it for her to read when/if she's out. Who knows if she's mad. Could be any scenario, but she's the one that will give you the answer.

I hope she's not, and if she's I hope she gets to listen to you.

Unfortunately I don't think she can read. I have witnessed a few occasions where she looked totally confused by words. Is it possible to try to maybe talk to communicate another way?
I feel that we were really lucky to have this specialist take us in since she was not accepting any new clients.

Situation normal. No worries. It sounds like Mode was present for the therapy session (in the background) and has a lot to process. There is no hurry.
