Funny Inner Conflict

Postby CasualFriday » Sat Sep 20, 2014 12:49 pm

This is so funny. I could never understand my indecision to certain situations, but with my DID/ DDNOS, things are sort of falling into place. Anyways, on to the funny part. When writing I've always had this inner struggle regarding what proper syntax is, specifically with the use of a semi-colon vs. comma. What would happen is I would write something, and then use a comma, but then 2 seconds later the voice says go back. I then change the comma into a semi-colon. The problem is that the discussion then ensues. I'm co-conscious with this alter, so I keep hearing his/her opinion on the subject of colon vs. semi-colon. Eventually my stomach is in a knot and my mind feels split two ways :? LOL  I've written pages worth of fiction, only to reread everything and change all the semi-colons into commas.

But on this topic, do any of you ever feel that you are co-conscious with more than two alters? It's like I'm just writing and two of my alters are arguing on grammar and syntax. I'm caught in the middle of all this. :?

It's my understanding that you use a semi-colon to connect two sentences that could otherwise stand alone. The colon is used like this: it is a known fact that syntax and grammar can really suck. Or you can use it if you're going to list things in lieu of the comma. Like the following: grammar, syntax, colons, semicolons and commas are all very nice. (Now that doesn't sound right, I don't think I explained it right and repeated myself.)

The comma is used when you list things like, grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. That last comma I used is optional and i'm not very sure it's used like that anymore. Commas can also be used to effect a pause in a sentence, if you want someone to stop for a second to get ready for the next part, or for dramatic reading. It can help make reading what was written more understandable. I think a comma can join two sentence fragments as well. Heh heh. I'm no expert, it's been a long time since i've had to worry about grammar. So I may be misinformed by now. Lol (I know that wasn't your question but I couldn't resist trying to remember, I always had problems with it too.)

I've never been co-conscious with 2 alters at the same time. But I have held conversations inside with 2 or 3 at the same time, which is pretty different, (;?) I think anyway. Maybe someone will come along and provide you with a better answer.

Hi, firelamb67.

I believe that your explanation about the syntax usage is correct.

Regarding ambiguity of co-consciousness, it's also bit of a question mark to me at times. :?: The reason I call it co-conscious is because that specific alter feeds me his/her emotions, thoughts and/or words. So it's almost like having a life couch of some sort. It can be daunting; I'm not not sure where I begin and they end :? . But as one of the regulars here said, all this terminology is only created so we can try to explain that which is somewhat unexplainable. It's our way of quantifying it all. I think everyone really does have a unique experience and outlook, although there are definitely overlapping qualities among fellow DID's.
