I was just wondering if anyone had tips to avoid DP/DR for comin up.
I have some techniques to ground again when it happens, but it s really annoyin as some alters take their opportunity to wake up-
and aren t fit to handle daily life-
so DP/DR ends in a switch-
and makes connecting with reality even harder.
Sigh.

Avoiding music. It makes me dissociate.
Exercise.
Being around people. Not isolating.

Being alone and switching is the worst for my DP/DR.
I agree that exercise helps or getting busy with something so that the mind has to concentrate something that you are doing. Tv, therapy room, music, being alone make it worse and harder to get out of for me. Sometimes something simple like walking the dogs will snap me out of it. But it can be tough!! Anyone who experiences it knows how crazy it feels and how debilitating it can be.

I've had some really bad bouts with these. In some cases, I ask my husband, "Did that really happen?" or something along that line - for hours. It is easier to deal with when a grounding person such as he is near. However, when he isn't, I try to do something that uses my five senses to ground such as baking. I literally have to force myself to do it but it is getting easier as I am able to recognize DP/DR for what it is and act accordingly. If nothing seems to help, I go to bed. Sleep helps.
