New therapist/New DX

Postby FeathersFall » Tue Dec 24, 2013 10:31 pm

Hi everyone,

Newbie FeathersFall here. Been reading for about a week and I like what I see so far. 8)

I recently started therapy with someone new after many years with my other therapist. I always knew I was dealing with PTSD/DDNOS but never felt I had DID because, even though I hear them and lose time, they have never presented themselves to me, nor has anyone ever "noticed" behavior changes except maybe spacing out. Test results all point to DID, yet I remain in denial.

However, two or three insiders have felt it appropriate to contact this new T and fill her in on some history that I was not aware of. I'm feeling a little betrayed and to be honest, left out of the loop!

The new T has been very open and honest with me about what is being discussed. I have no idea how to communicate. I tried asking them to write. I tried asking them specific questions. But so far nothing, yet they are starting a relationship with her.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I think it's great that your therapist is so supportive and open with you. I also think it's great that two of your insiders feel comfortable enough with your T to let the person know what's going on. I also feel that as time goes on and you get used to meeting with your T about the diagnosis of DID, it'll be easier to cope with. I hope everything goes well for you! :D

Thanks Violarules!

She is very supportive and knowledgeable about trauma and dissociation. I had no idea when I randomly picked her so I guess it was meant to be.

I might ask her to ask them why no one speaks to me. I know she wants me to open up the lines of communication but I humbly admit, it has not been easy.

You're welcome :) Since this is a new experience for you, it could be that the ones inside are trying to get used to you being aware of them. I hear voices as well, although I don't know if it's DID related or not, and sometimes the voices are very clear and talk to me with no problem but there are times where either I can't hear from how soft the voice is or they don't respond at all. There have also been times where two voices are talking with each other and as soon as they notice I'm listening, they become quiet, like they're talking about something that's a secret. It might just be that they need time to open up to you and communicate, a trust sort of thing.

Lack of trust is a good possibility. I also thought they might be upset because I'm trying to deny their existence. One told the therapist I was a loon and liked to talk a lot of smack, lolol.

Your denial could be it too. Like when dealing with someone in real life, if you don't trust or believe them, it's going to be hard for that person to trust and believe you. Trust is a two way street and it looks like they're waiting for you to trust and accept them first before they accept you back and feel able to open up to you.

Thank you so much!
I'm so glad I joined. I was feeling lost, wondering how would I get through tonight and tomorrow, never mind make it until Monday's session!
