Is it possible that you were with an alter and now she is back? Alter may not come back for long time...

She says she's experienced this type of emotional detachment before after her parents divorced. She becomes goal oriented and detached, she doesn't know how long it lasted all she knows is she's felt this way before

Hmm.... I can only wish you luck as I dont hv much knowledge in this matter. Try different methods to bring her back to normal. Hopefully something will work.

Goal oriented and detatched is one of the main ways I dissociate emotional trauma. Sounds like this is so for her as well. It is a temporary coping mechanism at best. Emotions always catch up just as soon as "there is nothing to do" or nothing that keeps her focused. Emotions catch up between 2 and 3am, that sort of thing. I've dissociated in this way NOT knowing that was what I was doing. Now, I would choose not to do this knowing that I was only putting off the inevitable. You could try to talk with her about how she feels about all that has transpired but it sounds like she will not discuss it at this time. Hang in there, this too shall pass....and then the real work will begin.

All parts of the person is an alter, there are just different roles to them as well.

I very much agree with Rayn here and it's something I've done a lot myself; especially when it comes to grief. It just takes time sometimes for it to catch up and for now she may just not be ready.

Hoping she finds the healing she needs.

I've actuall had this myself, even though I was able to snap out of it after a good part of a day. I was triggered, and had such an onslaught of feelings that I shut down all of them, but with the bad ones I also shut down the good ones. When my girlfriend came online, who I love immensely, I was merely mildly curious about what she'd say, but I didn't feel anything.

I'm still not sure if this was an alter or not -usually I have the feeling of time distortion after they take over for such a long time but that wasn't the case- However, it is possible to break it. For me, it was impotant to be explained in a logical way - I didn't understand anything else- why having emotions is a good thing.

much luck to you!
