Tips for better communication?

Postby TGFSmith » Tue Aug 13, 2013 8:56 pm

I've read on here about alters not knowing relationships were over, and acting as if they were still on the best of terms. That happened to us today, and I don't want that to happen again. What's the best way of sharing important information like that? I thought we all knew, but clearly not. Any advice would be appreciated.

Jeff, you can tell someone something but you cannot control whether they hear or accept what you tell them. Also, someone may hear you and not agree with you, not want to do what you want.

Is this event today in fact a failure of communication by you to this part that the relationship is over, or is it a failure of the rest of you to respect that this part does not want the relationship to be over?

This alter was a little, and it was an innocent mistake. They simply didn't know. I did not ever directly tell them, but big news like that has always travelled. At least I think it has.

That extra information helps. Thank you.

For this situation, as I said there is never any guarantee that everyone will listen or understand. But you can increase the chances of everyone getting the message by beginning any system-wide message with a statement such as Everyone please listen up. And if you know someone is not available to listen right now, please pass this on to them. Thank you! Is everyone listening? Okay..."

Thank you, Una. I'm learning how to spread important messages across my system, and an ever-growing one at that. I'll use your advice, and find what works for us.

We leave notes for each other if something important happens. I leave a notebook and pen on the nightstand and check it every so often.

I'd recommend something like this, or setting up a system journal with 'major' events documented.
