bipolar or alters switching?

Postby alizhee » Sat Aug 03, 2013 10:33 pm

how can I tell the difference?
a part (the dancer) of mine got dxed with bipolar-disorder.
i read the journals from a period (age 17 to age 30) and it reads to me, that i had alters switching, as they had such a different perception and handwriting.
but yeah, bipolar is being manic and being depressed so the perception differs.
now i am developed to bipolar rapid switching (the dancer got severely abused), but if i hear my mind talking then I think of rapid alter switching (not only two but more, as for example one decides to do the laundry and goes to collect it together, but before finishing task, one changes mind and goes to pc playing card game, one starts to dissolve, one wants to paint and puts painting stuff out, but before starting i go to my partner telling something about neuropsychology etc). in between time loss, going to a room and forgetting what i was supposed to do there.
mood is switching permanently, and i hardly finish tasks.
doing laundry of 15 pieces of clothing can take me 2 days.
I keep journal every day, handwriting is changing a lot.
So how can I tell the difference between alters changing or bipolar?

Bipolar would occur within one alter. If you're switching a lot and are moody, either you're moody from switching (common due to stress) or you're switching between alters with different moods.

Keep in mind, mood disorders such as bipolar disorder are commonly misdiagnosed in people with DID.

People with bipolar have manic episodes, unlike DID switches. They stay the same person, but get incredibly energized or depressed for periods of time. I think there's a few articles out there comparing the two, if you'd like to do some research.

Personally, I thought I could have had bipolar a few months ago, but all I had was mood swings related to an undiscovered alter. That doesn't mean you have another undiscovered; rather, it simply means that the mood changes could be caused by DID. Nothing I say here is gospel, mind, but you're not describing the odd sleep patterns or other symptoms of a manic episode. Research, and talk with a professional.

"The dancer" did education of classical ballet (starting age 17).
was no more person before,

changed genetics (--->really did)

but was two:
- one could turn 7 pirouettes on point-shoes.
- one felt with just one pirouette.
Different set of information.
People said:" You are a different person".
Different clothing.
No sleep-disturbance.
