This world doesn't feel real. Not the outside world with the people and works and cars, and not the inside world with 'flashbacks' and people and memories.
I don't know what is real. Going to a job and wasting my time doesn't. Hearing people talking inside my head doesn't feel real. Everything I do I feel like I'm dreaming and just waiting to wake up but I never do.
The words im saying feel like they could disappear at any moment. I'm some invisible ghost living in an empty world all by myself. No one can hear me? I can't wake up from this.
I'm scared and I just want to feel like things are real. {-Myra}

Hi Myra,
There is a technique I figured out a long time ago, that maybe it'll help you. I think it's a form of biofeedback.
Whenever I felt very distraught and needed to be grounded in reality, I'd find my pulse on my throat. Holding it slows the blood flow a bit, which naturally has a sedating effect. Plus, the pulse is mine. It's real and no one can steal that from me. So I just feel the beat and regulate my pulse and breathing. It has a calming effect. (Night, on behalf of Sam)

Never compromise yourself, you're all you've got.

That's why they call it
derealization. It is a dissociative symptom. It too will pass. Grounding and self-soothing help. Stay away from alcohol and the like.

I do that too AltCtrlDel. I didn't realize it was some kind of grounding technique, I've been doing it for years automatically. I would definitely recommend it, it's pulled me out of some heavy panic attacks, delusions, out of body type experiences etc., many many times.

I know it's not helpful, but I just wanted to say that I can relate to such feelings and experiences.
(The pulse-finding grounding technique is not one I've heard or read of. Thank you for posting that, I may have to try it.)
