Our Host Can See Us in the Outside World

Jack: For a while Liam can see and feel us in the outside world. When we touch him he can feel it and he can see us in full color. We were wondering if anyone can see their alters in the outer world as well. We aren't scared that Liam can see and feel us, we were just wondering if this is common amongst people with DID.

Yes. Some systems do report the experience of seeing and touching or being touched by alters in the environment. It has been mentioned here on the DID Forum and I have read about it in memoirs and case reports.

I can feel the alters very distinctly, but I've only seen one (it was for about a second, a persecutor. I tried to get away). I personally know another system that can see them outside. I can only guess at this, but I wouldn't say the majority do, but it's not terribly uncommon.

I have never personally seen one of the alters but I will occasionally look at parts of my body feet hands ...etc and get surprised that they look so little when I know they arnt

We can often see each other on the outside. Sometimes we'll just break out laughing because someone (in our system) is doing something ridiculous that only we can see

Our body also can shift into different parts depending on who controls the boundaries of that part. eg: my face will look like my own, my eyes will look like Birch's, my feet will be Tia's little feet, and my hands will be Nymeria's claws .

Me too. 3 of us regularly manifest a physical appearance outside the body. One of them does so because she was mute and out of habit, instead of talking she still points at things etc. It used to be much worse when the body was small. Everyone was seen and experienced like this by the little boy who was host back then. It was very frightening for him and yet he had to hide it all the time.

Regularly Unfortunately it can be startling sometimes...but helps when 'conferencing' with (me/mom) or counselor....It was a little hard for the Littles at first to see (Daddy) but not feel his touch. They cannot seem to feel things, while (host) can. New or hostile alters are able to get some extra help going back in the first time this way....

It can be scary. You winder if you are hallucinating or seeing ghosts. *tw* but when they hold you down and won't let you up, that is the worst!

Sometimes.... I see her in Mirrors or other shiny stuff....
She looks like I.... used to draw her..... Only with a air of life about her.

But... when she gets really... violent... I can see her in Three dimensions.... Its.... horrifying.

We see each other inside, and also how the body looks by itself.
Well, I don't have a form really, but the others do.

I do experience distortions in the characteristics of the body though. Like suddenly the face seems a different way, the hands different sizes...things like that.

I *do* sometimes (in therapy) see like a negative photo version of Gwar (usually attacking the therapist) that sorta overlays/overlaps the physical reality. It might be something else as I try really hard to focus away from it and 'come back' but something weird negative overlay photo with movement thing happens in therapy all the time, or I get tunnel vision with swirling colours.
