Hypnotherapy?

Postby Nina11 » Mon Jun 03, 2013 6:22 pm

I was wondering if anyone had experience with hypnotherapy and what the outcome was?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Hypnotherapy can help DIDers to deal with some specific problems, such as overcoming some symptoms of phobia or bad feelings of facing some stuffs. Hypnotherapy could also help with inner communication, cooperation between alters, or even integration. Yet, hypnotherapy could only be the assistant tool in the process of treatment, but it is not necessary to use hypnotherapy. Since most DIDers have high suggestibility, even we do not use hypnotherapy, we can do many things by imagery. Besides, using hypnotherapy only can hardly heal of the case fully, but long-term psychotherapy with patience is necessary .

It is easy to do something dangerous when using hypnotherapy to DIDers, since they are highly suggestible. Hence, i do not recommend any DIDers to try hypnotherapy rashly. Only if the therapist/doctors/psychologist has enough experiences and understandings of DID, then hypnotherapy can be useful.

To DIDers, using hypnotherapy is not often necessary, but psychotherapy is needed.

Beware of it, and feel free to ask your therapist. :)

Best wishes~!

Thanks for your reply :)

Right now I have a T who ignores the alters and only wants to talk to me, the host.
It s really hard on all of them, and they feel unheard.

A friend found a T who specialises in dissociation and trauma, and uses hypnotherapy. So was wondering whether or not to give it a shot.

The T you are now having sounds not that appropriate for you to have a better condition. Dealing with DID's issues requires high level of patience and understanding, and the T needs to encourage inner communication and cooperation <-- they are good for you.

Anyway, no matter what, ignoring the alters is not a good way.

Best wishes to you~!

How does the T ignore the alters? What does that look like? What does the T do, or not do?

Your best bet would be to talk to this therapist. First have a telephone conversation, then if that goes well make an appointment to discuss therapy.

For what it's worth, some therapists specialize in treating trauma and dissociation and use hypnotherapy, but do not use hypnotherapy to treat trauma and dissociation.

Well, she ignores them as in:

at one point Elf wanted to talk to her about me, and she just said: you can call yourself Elf, but I insist on callin you host.
This threw Elf back and it became a very awkward session.

so I m allowed to talk about the inner world, but that s it.

her suggestions are off too. She thinks my traumas are healed cause Indie is bein looked after by Tamara. While I can tell she s holdin a lot of anger and that is still there.
So to me, nothin is solved.

then there is the time when I asked advice about the 20 demon kids behind the glass wall, and she suggested to
TRIGGER WARNING
let them be killed by an abusive alter
END TRIGGER WARNING.

A phone call is a good idea, to see what he does and how he thinks about it.

Re the current therapist: Not good. Definitely not good.

Re the new prospect: Take small steps, and get more information. You have read more than enough about the issues so that you are informed. Now it is time contact the therapist. Please let us know how it goes for you.
