Seeing who's asleep

Postby lifelongthing » Thu Mar 07, 2013 6:01 am

So us and our SO, though some in our system aren't comfortable with too much (or any) physical contact, sleep in the same bed. After a while, she realized she could often-times see who it was who was asleep in the body, and started noticing who each way. She will notice when we switch while we sleep too because our breathing will change as well as our body language, just like when we're awake.

Here's an example:
Nin sleeps on her side in the fetal position, with her arms under her head.

emma is the only one who sleeps on her back. She will usually have her arms behind her head and have a very open body language, including having her legs spread and generally taking up more space than the rest. She is also very easy to lie next to, as she kind of molds to what is comfortable for both her and the SO when asleep.

Lin will fall asleep in a normal position but will usually in a matter of a short time end up either diagonally or some other "wrong way" in the bed or end up upside down with her legs up against the wall or simply half fall out of the bed and sleep hanging upside down etc.

This can be very apparent or there can be small differences. Our SO can't always tell who it is, but she can for the most part now. This has helped quite a bit with alleviating awkwardness and having our SO know if it's someone she can wake up/ if they're comfortable having her lie in next to them etc.

Just a tip for anyone who's having a hard time sharing a bed with a DID'er (or someone who has time on their hands like we've had  ) :)

yes  I've always slept like that, no idea why. The SO says that if she can feel someone's feet next to her feet/ankles but isn't feeling us next to her anywhere else (like an arm around her, or feeling us laying next to her etc) she usually knows it's me and that I'm sleeping diagonally again  Thankfully, after we bough our new bed I'm not falling on my face too often

How do I help these parts of me not sleep in these positions?

*trigger warning*
I have one that while she falls asleep okay enough (hands tied but nothing more) she will consistently sleep and wake up not only hands tied but her hands tied up against the wall so that my arms and back is stretched up as if I am hanging by my arms from the wall. It is really painful though this part doesn't seem to find it painful and is not doing it purposefully at all. I realize this is some form of reliving past trauma but I have a rather large group of alters who all sleep as if they are tied (though in different ways; like the one mentioned here or one that sleeps as if she's tied to the side of the bed, several who sleep as if their hands are tied together etc) but it has been so helpful for them to sleep in the body and see that it is safer now that I don't want to stop that either. How can I help them with this though, as this is not really okay for the body but is really helpful for them?

Thanks for any help.

My old host used to tie herself up before sleeping she found some strange comfort in bondage(not s*xual). Like there was security and fear. I guess arranging the position as comfortable as possible.

Hi,

Sometimes we mimic things from the past to feel ok about things in the present. Makes us sad to have those things still in our life but it feels like we need them. We hate needing them. We try not to do them but sometimes it's too hard and we just need to sleep or whatever so we do them anyway. We don't feel good about it. Our host gets really frustrated about it but it's not our fault. We're doing our best.

which one do they mean?
