She kept yelling **Trigger**

Postby user110867 » Sun Feb 24, 2013 5:52 pm

So, Lori came out for a reason we'd rather not discuss here and Rita (Our current guardian) came home. Lori apparently began cussing her out and trying to snatch the beer from her hand. Anyway, I came out because I heard angry yelling from Rita and I tried to speak, but she yelled at me and told me not to move. She forced me to lay down and take medicine and kept screaming for Leslie to come back.

When I told her I was Logan she said, "NO! YOU'RE LESLIE! LESLIE, COME BACK!" It hurt like h***. I understand, she had never witnessed a switch before and was scared. Still, how can I get her to keep calm if I come out again? She says she will try, but what if she doesn't? She was so scary. I wish people would stop treating me like I don't exist.

that is really scary. im sorry that happened.

it sounds like Rita knows about the DID, but doesnt really understand it completely. she knows that you are not Leslie in the same way that you know that you are all pieces of one person. knowing the fact doesnt mean you really comprehend what that means, nor does it mean that you view it that way all the time. you try to. and she tries to view you as not Leslie.

but when Lori came forward, she was very aggressive and probably scared Rita. so with Rita panicking, she wanted to get the one out that she knows and trusts - Leslie. she wasnt really thinking at the time about how you are all different, she was thinking how you are all one person. since Leslie is the host, she was the one chosen to represent that 'one person'. she she saw it as someone she trusts attacing her, so she had to snap them out of it. she didnt want to hear another name - that was not going to calm her down. she was scared too. when Leslie came forward (im assuming thats how it ended?), she had the chance to calm down and realize what she did.

if she says that she will try, i imagine she will try. but when you are scared, its hard to think about things from the perspective of someone else. i hope things go better in the future. :)

I'm sorry this happened.

Often times when a person reacts like this to a switch, it's due to lack of knowledge and understanding about what's going on, and even then, it can sort of "blind side" a person when they're expecting to come home to an alter they know.

Maybe have Leslie try to explain more about DID, how it works, what alters are, how they are parts of the same person, what switches are and entail, etc.

You could possibly print out stuff from these sites as well to help explain things:

http://www.dissociative-identity-disorder.org/

http://www.dissociative-identity-disorder.net/

You could also write out things that you want to say so that you can sort of organize your thoughts a bit before saying it, and find the best way to explain things like switching. Personally, I use a car metaphor. Picture the body as a car, and that car has one driver (whoever's out) and can change between having no passengers (only one alter out/aware of the outside world), or it can have multiple passengers (this would be co-consciousness). Explain that a switch is like someone getting out of the driver's seat and someone else getting in and taking the wheel. I've found that metaphors that deal with everyday things can help people better understand details about DID.

Best of luck with everything.
