On odd daily life particularities

Postby lifepuzzle » Tue Feb 05, 2013 1:36 am

Good evening (again),

Sorry for being a pain, but I have a few questions regarding odd phenomenon occurring in my daily life which could be dissociation-related, but I'm unsure.

First of all, I sometimes stop feeling tactile pressure. That causes me to often drop glasses and other fragile stuff, or to crush it because I become unaware of the force I'm exerting on whatever I'm holding.

How common is it ? Could it be linked to depersonalization ?

Second and last observation/question for this post, I realized that since I've become more in touch with myselves and more symptoms started to emerge, I tend to forget words such as negating words (like "not", "ne .. pas" in French) and that makes my sentences hard to understand because I forget them nearly randomly. I also tend to skip general words as well, and my communication quickly becomes difficult to understand.

Is that common ? How can it be prevented (and no, alloting more concentration is an option :| ) ?

Thank you for your answers !

and no, alloting more concentration is an option

I see you did it there as well. It's interesting you did this while being concentrated enough that you are writing about it. I would say concentration isn't the issue here then, probably. I've found I sometimes forget words and such things as well. I think it's pretty common, for reasons I don't know. Taking a pause and thinking about the entirety of your sentence before speaking is a good idea, yes. In general though, I'd look from stressors: are you in a lot of stress lately? This could overwhelm your ability to remember correctly (how to do even basic tasks like putting together a sentence).

First of all, I sometimes stop feeling tactile pressure. That causes me to often drop glasses and other fragile stuff, or to crush it because I become unaware of the force I'm exerting on whatever I'm holding.

It could probably be from DP/DR, though I'm not sure. I have experience with dropping things but this is due to physical problems I have because of trauma (e.g injuries).

Best of luck.

Never apologize because there's no need for you to! You're not a pain! You're free to post here as much or little as you want. :D

Every person is different, but I've heard this can be quite common with dissociation/depersonalization. I've experienced this a few times, other alters have experienced it much more than I have. I've also noticed I'll experience depersonalization/derealization before a switch, or while trying to "hold off" a flashback after a trigger happens, or if I'm co-hosting/co-conscious without realizing it with someone "new" or who doesn't recognize my body as their's (or a little who doesn't expect to be in a "big body"). I'll experience this sometimes after a shock as well, or while very stressed, or something like that, too; like when I'm just sitting there trying to process something, or standing there not really looking at anything because my mind's going a million miles an hour, or something like that.

Thank you for your answers !

This is VERY common, and quite normal/natural. It can be a mixture of symptoms are starting to emerge, but also you're starting to notice/become aware of symptoms that have always been there, just not noticeable to you because you weren't looking for them and weren't aware of anything like that going on (at least on a conscious level).

Everyone is different, so everyone will have different things that work for them to help this stuff, but try working on grounding techniques (like deep breathing, counting to ten, self-talk, etc); try writing down the words you forget most often (or at least some of them) in a list for yourself to carry to help for now; try communicating with your others if you can to see if they can help (like if they're causing the forgetfulness, see if they can stay "back"/more "inside" during certain times when you really need to remember, or see if someone can actually be "up there" with you to help you remember, or ask them if they have ideas with how to help, stuff like that); maybe try to super-focus on the words you want to say before/as you're saying them (I have to do that a lot); and I think that's all I have for ideas right now.

This stuff will get better over time, and it won't stay like this forever, know that at least. Hope you feel better soon.
