I have had head noise and alsocomplete sound blockages w/ white noise.I have also had music playing super loud or lots of clutter, too much to distinguish anything. All seemingly were natural dissociative issues wherein My mind was left unable to process much of anything. Even think for that matter. It was a kind of slowing down my world to protect integrity.Inturn howver it rendered me low functioning in those periods.Conversion or somataform syndroms can present as diagnoseable medical conditions. So triggers and stress can use these conditions as a form of reliving a stressful anxiety provoking issue with the body displaying illnesses. OF ten these things can clear up at somepoint as issues are dealth with. Most of my somataform like disorders have not ceared up , but some have for parts of me.

I thought it was really interesting. I notice mine often during switching - it's often the first thing I notice then I feel a slipping away and a change of demeanor. Just start noting when it happens and what precedes and follows it.

Very interesting. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Problem with me is that it- the noise in my head - never goes away. It started with a phone call of bad news and it's been there since? I think it's PTSD-related.

Today I met with my therapist. She thinks the noise will subside as I process my grief ..ugh...sometimes progress is slow.

This makes a lot of sense to me as well. I think our bodies are so maxed out with triggers, flashbacks and stress & grief that the body doesn't know what to do and other illness crop up-yikes.

I believe your T about the PTSD connection. For a very long time after a bad event, I had a vision problem associated with PTSD. During the tramau I looked down at my desk and the wood grain pattern from the desk was ingrained in my vision for a long time. Any time I would be reminded of the event or be the slightest bit stressed - barely took anything - I would see the wood grain. I could still draw a picture of it, it's that clear.

So yes, it is likely from the PTSD and event. I hope you are able to process things and enjoy some quieter head time very soon. :)

Re: Question about head noise -TW

Postby Journalgirl » Wed Feb 20, 2013 2:26 pm

Wanted to update re the noise and my possible DID.

This is what I've learned in the past 6 months of study/reading and therapy once a week. I probably have a few things going on - not DID but the lesser version with DID-NOS ( not sure correct name). Add in C-PTSD and perhaps complex grief.

I don't have an inside world or complete alters that I know of - I do have lots of time loss and gaps in memory. My short term memory is terrible due to on again off again dissociation? I have one ANP (that I know of) and a handful of Emotional parts in my system - I'm never sure who is posting here? I get depressed if I don't actively seek communication with my parts - even though it feels somewhat contrived at times. I've tried to keep journaling to establish better communication with my emotional parts and to monitor my head noise. I have seen handwriting changes but only with little-parts.

TRIGGER WARNING BELOW -

OK the noise is still constant and there every day and night.

Recap - I have a constant buzzing ringing noise in my head that began TRIGGER _ the day I found out a family member committed suicide END TRIGGER

The noise seems to be connected to my anxiety level and it will be louder at times though I have not been able to get it to go away at all.So I have had noise in my head for almost 6 months. My therapist insists that it's not tinnitus but related more to activity of my system trying to settle itself after recent trauma or perhaps related to PTSD that I am also suffering from.

That's my update. I've learned so much from reading in this forum and so appreciate past responses to my situation and head noise -

I don't have much to say other than I you were meaning you probably have DDNOS-1 (it's the "lesser form" of DID), and if you'd like to look more into what DDNOS-1 is all about, try this link here:
http://www.dissociative-identity-disorder.net/ddnos.html

Other than that, I'd say it makes perfect sense that the noise you hear is PTSD related, and I'm glad that there's been some progress and realizations for you! :D

Re: Question about head noise -

Postby TheCollective » Sat May 25, 2013 1:52 pm

Yes we actually do have something like this. Not all the time cause it's been there my entire life so I got used to ignoring it. Sometimes it drives me crazy though.

TW?

A couple years ago I accidentally pierced my ear with a swab, it was broken and bleeding quite heavily. Stupid me. I read about this and found out that this could have killed me if it would have been further in. After that it got worse and is still continuing to get worse. I think I should go to the doctor eventually. end..

But anyway, the voices lessen the 'tinnitus' (I'm not sure whether it's actual tinnitus but it does run in the family) and the tinnitus lessens the voices. I've had both voices and 'tinnitus' for as long as I can remember. It could be something medical or not, I have no clue. I recently remembered a nasty ear pain I had as a child multiple times, maybe that's what caused it with me? I should talk to my doctor about all the years of neglect etc and my DID, otherwise she'll just think I'm nuts for waiting so long to see someone for my ear and so much other stuff. But I'm not ready for that conversation yet, so for now we'll just have to live with it.

Re: Question about head noise -

Postby Una+ » Sat May 25, 2013 2:19 pm

Yes, totally normal. I have read many times in the literature that almost everyone diagnosed with DID (including DDNOS-1) reports tinnitus: ringing or buzzing noises in their head.

In my case, its focal point is in my right ear. The noise waxes and wanes for reasons that clearly are psychogenic. It produces a functional hearing loss in the auditory mid-range in that ear, as shown by standard hearing tests. Therapy sometimes makes it a lot worse, and sometimes stops it for days or weeks at a time. This is very interesting to me, because there is a real potential for the tinnitus to stop and never start up again. Several of my other psychosomatic physical symptoms have stopped.

That is interesting that a lot of DID'ers report that. I live with a constant buzzing too, the more dissociated I am, the louder it is. A tricky therapy session that has brought up a LOT of activity from inside is a particular trigger for it to sound off the scale. At the moment with the amount of stuff we are dealing with I am also having a faint with it too, as in my hearing goes, I can't stand, everything goes fuzzy sight-wise. Just because we are going through a particularly triggered time.
