could not stop crying

Postby newuser » Mon Jul 23, 2012 12:39 pm

For the past four days I could not stop crying. I thought about my mental illness and my hpv and cried and cried. The slightest irritation would cause me to cry. Is this severe depression? What should I do?

look at beautiful pictures...you are lacking something in your life. Read a beautiful book. Stay away from everything sad.

I too suffer clinical depression. I have a history of child sexual, physical and mental abuse. It sounds to me as though you are suffering depression although I am not really in a position to judge with such a small amount of information (though you're certainly exhibiting symptoms). Have you seen your GP about meds? I was thoroughly against them as a youngster but I then weighed up the pros and cons and realised that my QUALITY of life was most important. I'd strongly suggest you visit a Doctor and tell them how you feel. I know how hard it is to even move when you're feeling that low, but in the end venturing out of your isolated safe zone may be the best thing for you. Who cares if you cry in the street? Most people with any dignity will leave you alone or help you... You'll be surprised. Please see a Doctor. If nothing else, you'll be able to talk about how you feel and maybe meds are what you need to get over this hump. There's a good argument out there that meds can permanently alter the neural wiring of people suffering depression in a good way such that they needn't be used forever.
OK, so I've tackled the physical aspect of depression - now for the mental. Remember that at all times your mood is like the weather - what today may look gloomy and dark may tomorrow be bright and happy. When we're feeling depressed we feel a sense of hopelessness that seems to overwhelm. It's our mind playing tricks on us. You know as a truth that you have not always felt this miserable; that there were times in your life you laughed and played and enjoyed everything the world had to offer. Those times seem to fade in to the background when we're depressed - we can't see the wood for the trees. Know that and believe it. I'd also explore cognitive behavioural therapy. I won't go in to detail here but I'll provide a link: http://www.health.qld.gov.au/rbwh/docs/cbt.pdf It's an Australian site but the information is universally applicable. You're a dear little sensitive soul with a pained heart - that can change. I wish you well and lots of love and cuddles from this side of the ocean <3

Depression makes everything seem awful. That is the nature of the disease. I don't think you're lacking anything - the world is a colourful place full of people with differences and if it wasn't life would be awfully boring don't you think? You are you and you are fine. Learning to love yourself is most important. Don't be harsh on yourself - you are just another human being trying to struggle through life the best way you know. Right now you're feeling a lot of pain, but that by no means suggests you are 'lacking something'. That's your mind playing tricks on you.
As you say yourself, it's probably not healthy for you to be around negative influences, whether that be violent / nasty TV, people who make you feel bad or anything else that 'brings you down'. As the previous poster said, stick to what you enjoy in life - shield yourself from the negative, and please, please go and see a Doctor so you can get some proper treatment.
Big cuddles, Emma <3

Nice. Well I'm off to bed (it's really late here), but I'll check in tomorrow to see how you're going and in the meantime, please look at Cognitive Behavioural Therapy more closely. You can ask me questions about it or ask me about myself if you like - whatever. In the meantime, please take care of yourself.

i am like susan, and looks like more stress that way. i tend to think why did this happen, it shouldn't have happened if xyz. Stress is my enemy. How does cognitive therapy help with the stress?

What would cognitive therapy say to do when someone says something to upset you, you say something to upset them, they say something back to upset you, you say something back, continues until you get depressed.

Hi no one ever really enjoys watching television, it's just a box with ugly pictures on it. Television has been horrible in the past times anyway.
