harsh withdrawal symptoms of prozac?

Postby patm3300 » Wed Nov 23, 2005 1:17 am

i hear that prozac and any other SSRI for that matter can have some pretty nasty withdrawal effects. i heard that it is common to have "brain shocks" in which the muscles of the body could become very weak and bad depression. can anyone further feed my brain with information about this withdrawal effects. they are starting to worry me.

to the best of my knowledge, prozac does not have withdrawl symtoms, very few ssri's moa-somthings or another and anti psychotics, do not have withdrawl symptoms, ask your doc, he/she knwos more bout it, but prozac no, you could stop today and nothing would happen, except the depression would get worse:)

I do not think the symptoms you mentioned are frequent after stopping these drugs. However, what does seem to occur most of the time is a rebound of symptoms. That is after stopping, your original symtoms will come back, maybe even stronger then before. This often happens if one quits cold turkey. Getting off of meds should be a slow, gradual procedure.
Good Luck,

Postby LOSTANDCONFUSED » Sun Dec 04, 2005 7:07 am

to say that ssri's do not cause withdrawl when you stop taking them is not true / i was on 150mg's of zoloft a day and stop taking it because it was making me feel worse then i did / any ways I have been having these wierd dizzy spells where it feels like your brain is getting shocked / its not to good of a feeling / i think i would rather be sick from herion then zoloft

i'm sorry, but i have to say duhh!, ok were are dealing wiht two differant things here, well, three,

firstly, low doses should'nt have too bad withdrawl symptoms on nay medicine, and patm300 is on about 20 mg of prozac, if i am correct, and i was just as paranoid about things at that point so i asked my doctor if it had withdrawl symptoms, and he said no, so no, prozac no,

and secondly, well ###$! you were on a ######6 lot of zoloft, of fcuking course it was going to give you withdrawl symptoms, sorry, but duhh,

and thirdy, patm300, i've been through the prozac, the risperdal, the abilify, the lexipro, and taking too much ibeprofen, not like thats really relevant, but anyway, you'll be ok, stop being so paranoid!!! if you stopped prozac rightnow at 20 mg, i know you'd be fine, becasue my doc said i would be, and i was, so it's ok, calm down

yeah moramind but now i am up to 40 mg and if i am on this medication to long there are going to be some tough withdrawal symptoms. i have read multiple accounts from people who were on high doses of SSRI's who get these "brain shocks". those accounts came from books and from internet forums that are definitely a lot like this one. SSRI's do have plenty of side effects, even at low doses. you just be extra resistant to the withdrawal effects moramind.
