Depression and Guilt

Postby Tiny » Fri Jun 01, 2007 7:30 am

Before I start..Yes I am seeing a doctor.....I'm depressed and have been as long as I can remember which is over 40 years now...I'm working on new methods with my doctor to handle my depression...What I can't handle is the over powering guilt inside..its like a tumor within my body..My family growing up was not good and I can't seem to break away....I have learned to stand my ground and be the best I can for me, but in doing so I have to stay away from the cruel family and its making me feel so guilty..I want to cut that guilt that grows like a tumor out of me..Is there any suggestion out there that can help me NOT FEEL GUILTY[/b]

Are you & your doc working with RET (Rational Emotive Therapy) or a similar Cognitive Behavioral Therapy? They're used very successfully a lot with depression -- and (if I remember right) also with guilt.

If your doc is well-practiced with such CBT s/he should be able to apply it to the guilt, too.

Tiny, I also support the use of cognitive therapy. I've used it to battle depression for many years. It does work.

Good Luck,
