I have suffered with depression since I was 16 so 10+ yrs now.

There is treatment for it so you don't feel like this every day. I have my good days and bad days and for me my depression will likely never fully go away as it's clinical and seasonal.

There are exercises you can do to help, positive self-talk, therapy, meds to help with the symptoms. Exercise is a big plus, it gets your endorphines going that makes you happy.

Don't give up, I can live with mine, it isn't as bad as it used to be... usually something has to trigger it for me to feel really down.
I can function in my daily life, even if I feel low. It takes time... and you need to try and start to do things to make it better... I know it's hard to think of life going on daily with feeling the way that you do, but there are ways to help it. I used to be bed ridden and pretty much a hermit for a year, my depression got that bad, and now i'm completely different from that time.

Have you sought out therapy?
Looked into purchasing any self-help books on depression?

IF your boyfriend says this to you hon perhaps it isn't healthy to stay with him. You need to find people that are supportive. Not people who will put you down for being depressed, considering it's not your fault that you are.

I've been with my bf for almost 6 yrs and he is understanding.
I think the negative atmosphere with your boyfriend and your mother is not going to help you deal with your depression.

Is your pdoc aware how bad you feel?

beatachica,

I hear the hurt, the anger, the self-pity.
But Butterfly asked a good question, does you doc know how badly you feel. You cant stay in that cloud forever.

Boyfriends can really be nasty. When I was a teen ager - early 20's those kinds of remarks stung hard. I did not have control of my depression or me.

Being self aware is the first step. But you have to choose to live life alive. You can go out and find out what you favorite thing are, what your favorite food is. BUT LIKE MY YOU HAVE TO FIGHT DEPRESSION EVERY SINGLE DAY. I deserve to have just as a good life as the next life, and a life that is unquiely my own.

But you have to not hide in a coma of drugs to do it. There are plenty of meds that help major depression, I am on Wellbutrin plus another on, so I know what I am talking about.

You just need to make that tiny little decision and WE are always here to have some one to vent too.

peace. (hi butterfly) :D

info on depression...

Postby evc44 » Mon May 14, 2007 8:05 pm

Beata,
Depression is a prison for people. No escape without proper help. In order to get proper help, you need to fully understand what might be happening. A magical pill described from your doctor will not solve your problems, it may alleviate it at moments but with side effects, that is what meds do.

"Like most chronic conditions and their symptoms, there is not one single cause for depression. Rather, there are several different factors which can contribute to and cause depression. When depression is not a by-product of external events, it is called endogenous, meaning “originating from within.” This kind of depression is believed to be fundamentally due to biochemical abnormalities, specifically an altered balance of the neurotransmitters serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. This imbalance may occur in a number of different ways."

Stopping depression is a lifestyle change, from diet to exercise patterns, to supplements and sleeping patterns. It takes a whole mind and body focus.

Here are some alternative remedies

I post this website because I have had some luck with their products, but mostly because it is full of information, and that is they first step in helping.

Good luck!

Buyer beware:

There is some reasonable information in each of the articles from which evc44 posts long quotations.

That does not mean that a commercial site (that promote its own products and own book) is to be seen as an independent health/mental_health resource.

Yes, Pat Sullivan has self-published "Wellness Piece by Piece: How a Successful Entrepreneur Discovered the Pieces to His Chronic Health Puzzle" ... just be aware that "Entrepreneur" may be an "alert" rather than a credential ...before you go buying.

LQ,

Thank you for letting us know that the links are while having information, are just commercial to by a certain book.

Maybe the poster received permission from the Admin on the site.

Whoa...

Postby evc44 » Wed May 23, 2007 6:31 am

Hey,
I was just posting some information from a website that I have been using as a resource -- just throwing it out there. I have had success with some of the products, but moreso with the information...

This a forum to share what has worked and to offer alternative information isn't it??? Just making sure...

No problem with being skeptical, just thought I would answer
