Family GPs v. p$ychiatrist?

Postby D2treadmill » Fri Sep 15, 2006 12:41 am

I'm ready to throw in the towel on the family gp, and switch to the psychiatrist. Haven't got a psych to go to yet, but just unhappy with the care the gp can offer. Partly due to unavailability of gp.

Does anyone feel that the GP is just inadequate? (Or am I just too demanding and bullyish when I'm only half medicated?) I've been through three gps in the last five years due to moves out of state (them, not me). Maybe it's the fact that I'm seeing them in university-hospital sponsored clinic where they (2 of 3) are part-timers and unavailable when I'm in need of quick info.

Day 2 on 10mg of lexapro (switch from 40mg celexa) and I want to throw things and rip off heads. I think I need more. Half-life IS only 36hr. It's almost the same damn molecule!!! GP's nurse came back first time with the wrong patient history and saying the GP wanted me to try this particular dose for 4-6 weeks. I'm sorry, but that's just STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This system isn't serving me well.

Think I answered my own Q:. Finding a p$ych asap.

GRRR. Venting. GRRRRRRRRR. sorry, grrrrrrrrrrrr.
[smash.]

General practitioners can only do so much. They're not even experts on mental illness, psychiatrists are. That's why you're supposed to go see a psychiatrist when you think you're mentally ill and not a general practitioner. GPs can only be an extra help, not a main one.
