I'm 17 and for a couple of years I know I've always felt off. I don't like going out that much, the whole "socialising thing" just seems so unreal to me. Life doesn't feel realistic to me, I've missed countless days of school on purpose based on the fact that I felt so weird about it. I hurt myself purposely just to see if I can feel anything. I've been a self harmer for over a year, it started because of stress and turned into just trying to feel something. It literally feels like I'm living in a dream, sometimes I'm not even capable of walking straight or speaking, or even a simple task. Other days I will just lay in bed and try to reach towards the ceiling and I'm not able to move my arms up, and some days I'll even question if the ceiling is real. It's something that affects my life quite a bit but nobody else seems bothered by me being this way so I don't see it as a big deal. I've never seen anyone about it, or told anyone about it in general. How can you tell what's normal for other people and not anymore?

Hi, sonic23! Well, you say that it's something that affects your life a great deal, so at least you know there's something you might have to deal with. It's ok if you can't tell what is normal right now, all you need to do is look after yourself.
You could go to your regular doctor, explain the situation and ask them to send you to a good specialist. What do you think?

I would say that if it is causing you distress & seems abnormal to you, then it's not normal & deserves attention from a psychiatrist or therapist. What do you say? It definitely sounds like depersonalization or derealization to me. Although I'm not able to diagnose.

I think I'll try it out, going to need to talk to one of my parents about it first I'm guessing so I'll see if I can.
