Left my body as a kid?

Postby Zep » Mon Dec 10, 2012 6:18 am

Hello everyone, I'm new here and just had a weird question that has been gnawing at me for ages!
When I was younger (8? 10? 12?) I clearly remember "disconnecting" from myself and literally going up into the sky and "flying" along roads, fields, cities, forests...

I'm not sure what this sensation was or if it is even dissociating, but I remember clearly experiencing the feeling MANY times. It does not happen anymore at all, in fact I can't remember it happening since I was 11 or 12. I don't remember what triggered the feeling or what I was doing when it happened, but I know that I was certainly awake, not asleep.

Think it was just my magnificent imagination :P or some form of dissociation?

Google 'Astral Projection'
It is very real.

Zep,
I've experienced this "flying" more times than I can remember. I did not experience any type of childhood emotional trauma, but I had a brain hemorrhage (bleeding) that happened when I was very little which (I believe) is a huge contributing factor to my dissociations. Mine, too, have become somewhat weaker with age and nowadays I "fly" mostly when I am under stress or when something is affecting me emotionally - and not necessarily in a bad way only. I also have an ability to feel other people's emotions and if someone close to me is under huge stress -even if I don’t know it - I pick up their signals and dissociate a lot more than usual.

In regards to your question - whether that was dissociation, imagination, astral projection or something completely different - well, the answer will always depend on a person's beliefs. I would suggest that you enjoy the ride and your past experience since it apparently has not caused you any trauma. As someone who has experienced leaving your body you know how beautiful, inspiring, free and surreal it can be although a little frightening too, especially when it just starts to happen. :)

Was this during a dream? Were you sleep deprived at the time? This happens to me before waking up sometimes and it feels very strange. I heard of it happening to other people too.

Yep, I used to do this a lot. It would often transform into fantasies as well. I think these were my earliest memories of dissociation, they started around 5 or so.

If you were experiencing good things it was God taking you translated in the spirit, however, if it was scary or affected you in a negative way it was astral projection

I have throughout my life experienced outer body experiences or astral projection on and off. It was always during sleep, I would exit my body and start floating up to the ceiling, this did not feel like a pleasant or religious experience, it's always terrifying and makes me feel helpless especially since I would always try to call out for help but I couldn't get my voice to work. If I'm not floating out of my body then I'm having dreams where I'm falling from a tall building and am jolted out of sleep when this happens, that is very common in people though I think.

Yes i think this one must be quite common because i used to have it regularly. I used to enjoy it though. I was always flying though, not just lifting up in the air a bit but actually flying. It was always because someone was chasing me and i was able to fly to escape from them. The thing was i am, and always have been, really scared of heights, terrified of them in fact. Because of this i never used to fly that high, about level with the tops of trees was as high as i would go although i knew i had the ability to fly as high as i liked, but because my pursuer couldn't fly i didn't need to go any higher than that. I loved it to be honest, it's been a recurring dream throughout life.
