i keep lying to my bf about not smoking cigarettes

Postby tbesneatte » Tue Apr 05, 2011 4:35 am

for some reason i keep telling my boyfriend that i have quit smoking cigarettes, even tho i will have one on occasion. i cant help but tell him that im not smoking even if he can tell i had one that day. i dont know what to do. i dont lie to him about anything else, but because i lie about the cigarettes, he thinks that i am lying about everything else. my lying is causing problems in our relationship and making us take steps backwards not forwards.
does anyone have any advice for me?

I f you still need a cig now an then , thats your business tell him that, Its not easy to quit cig,s just like that. withdraw to fast is like withdrawl from a med. Is he putting pressure on you to quit, if so thats why you lie to him. Im sure he does things your not cool with, if you want to smoke then tell him you like it an it makes you chilled. He is makeing you feel guilty an thats bad. 8)

thanks manic666. that makes a lot of sense. he does put the pressure on me to quit, and i was trying so hard to quit and when i couldn't, it felt like i failed him and that i had to lie.
not that this really relates, but he got mad at me because i quit smoking cigarettes for him and also gets mad when i dont tell him i smoke one. i feel that this is a lose lose situation, probably one of the reason i lie about the smoking as well.

Well for one, you should stop smoking for yourself alone, no one else. Since, you know, you're the one that stuck the cigarette to your lips and made yourself addicted to them to begin with.

Him pressuring you is fine, but not if it's to a point that it's stressing you out. He's trying to express that he cares about your health, and that's thoughtful of him. The worst thing you can do is lie about it though. Just be open and honest with him, regardless of him getting angry or not.

You can also try lobelia(aka Indian Tobacco), It's a natural herb that will help you quit smoking. You can either smoke it, or you can take capsules of it. I think you can get them at online herbal stores like iHerb.com.

I dont smoke but have you ever thought, maybye people dont want to give it up. Sure its bad for your health , so is drinking, eating the wrong food, haveing sex with stranger,s ,diveing into a river when you carnt swim, driveing without a licience, shall i go on. She smoked when he first went out with her, so he knows the score. It may chill her from stress . So if she gave up under pressure she could turn to benzo,s for stress ,a far worse addiction than smokeing, i am that man. So you, me, an next doors cat, shouldent tell her to give up. Sure it not healthy an makes your breath stink, /// SHE /// like,s it so be it. :| :| :|
