Why was my post deleted?

Postby MrRockandRoll » Sun Mar 14, 2010 3:01 am

I took great pains to tell the story of someone who's life is painfully affected by compulsive lying. I did not name names, or break any rule that I'm aware of. Can someone please tell me why this happened, before I try telling my story again? Very frustrating...

Hi MrRockandRoll,

Welcome to the forums.

Your post wasn't deleted. Since you're a new user, your first posts had to be approved by a moderator or administrator. That's all. You're fine so far. :)

I'm not intimately familiar with compulsive lying disorder, so I'm going to leave your other post unanswered. I don't want to do you a disservice by accidentally providing erroneous information. However, I hope that the forum regulars will chime in and give you some feedback.

Also, I appreciate that you protected the anonymity of your friend.

Just about the only thing I can say is a very general statement...you can't really help someone if they don't want to help themselves. Another thing I know is that compulsive lying tends to be a disorder that forms out of an underlying issue. I know that this isn't very helpful, but like I said--I hope the regulars can give you more info.

In any case, you're now approved! :)

Well, I've been hearing more and more from this friend, that he's "had it" and "tired of living like this" etc. etc. I'm hoping if there's a DSM IV diagonosis, that might ring a bell with him, and send him in the right direction. Honestly, I think the reaction will be rage, and not speaking to me for 5 years, which is his usual modus operandi, but I'd like to go down in history as the first person who actually tried to help him! Even if he doesn't appreciate it now, maybe he will down the line. I think his family has long since given up, and I think there are mental heath issues there, too... We'll see, and thanks for your advice!

I did some looking around, and it doesn't look like the current version of the DSM includes compulsive lying criteria.

This doesn't mean that it's not a problem, though. Here are a few possibilities.

Hopefully, these 2 will help you get started.
