Sleep Genie

Postby bpd77 » Mon Oct 15, 2012 2:23 am

I was thinking about buying a sleep genie to help me sleet (obviously hence the name). SO I was wondering if anyone has tried on. I would love as much feedback as possible both positive and negative. All comments are WELCOME!!!

Crap.

Start setting up a routine. Go to bed at the same time every night, and wake up at the same time as well. I recommend a minimum of 8 hours of sleep/night.
I wouldn't however go above 9.5 hours of sleep/night.

Look at your environment, what could effect your sleep? Temperature changes? If it gets much colder in the morning and you find it walking you up, wear pyjamas.

Lighting. If you do not have effective blinds and drapes, buy some that will keep the morning light out as best as possible.

Pets? Look out for #1, in order for you to be at your best, you need good rest. Maybe it's time to take Fido to the kennel before bed to prevent sleep interruption.

Eating. Make sure not to eat anything high on carbs, ESPECIALLY SUGAR!!! Before bed.

Sex. Do it, if you can, or masturbate before bed. The endorphin release takes pain away, and thus relaxes your body.

Pre-bed agitation. You don't need it. Preferably, turn off anything stimulating at least an hour before bed. 2 hours before? Even better. If you can, turn on some relaxing music, read a book, stretch, meditate. Anything to put you in a calm state.

Troubles of today? Of tomorrow? Leave it at the door, deal with it in the morning.

Sleep aid. You can try taking "sleep-time" tea like Chamomile before bed to help you relax more. Also try soaking your feet in warm water. You wont believe how effective it is.
Also, if you'd like to try, buy some Melatonin, it can help you fall asleep. Though you don't want to be taking it for a long period of time, just to set your "internal clock" and get used to a routine sleep. 3mg tab per night is all you need, nothing more. And I'd recommend taking it for 2 weeks.

Sleep Genie isn't a magic bullet nor should you be looking for one. Follow the above and you're sure to establish a good sleep schedule and get the deep sleep you need to be recharged for the next day.

Thanks so much for all the great advice. I will definitely try to implement some of the ideas that you mentioned. Some of them I am doing already like going to bed at the same time and not eating or drinking anything high in carbs or with caffeine. I never thought of soaking my feet in warm water though and a couple other ones. Again thanks again!
