Saw the shrink today. I am finally letting her medicate me for bipolar II. I kinda feel like I won't be able to fully tackle the BPD until the Bipolar II is under control.
So, I'm on lithium.
I hope it doesn't take a super long time to kick in, also hoping it actually works. I'm so sick of the medication rollercoaster (which is why I stopped letting my doc medicate me).
The doc says lithium should kick in within 4-5 days since I've never been on anything like it before and since I have pretty severe symptoms.
Anyone else have experience with lithium - how long did it take to make you feel any different? Are the side effects bearable?

I don't have any experience with lithium, but I wanted to say good for you! I know you were humming and hawing over going to see a psych again. I'm glad you kept your appointment; it takes a lot to do that, so kudos to you!

Gah. I guess flat is better than angry (at least to the people around me), but that sounds so horribly boring. Then again, I didn't really medicate for myself ...

I was on lithium a very long time ago. I remember having to get blood tests every so often. It worked for a few years and made it much easier to use the dbt skills I was learning because I was less emotional and able to focus my attention.
Good luck with it and congrats on taking that huge step.
