Joining the crew

Postby Essessareeye » Wed Jul 25, 2012 3:29 pm

Hi there. I'm a 20-something with a history of emotional wreckage, childhood abuse, suicidal thoughts, relationship trouble and all that stuff. I've also just been referred to a specialist centre after describing my symptoms to a psychologist...when I looked up the centre I discovered its speciality is BPD. So I guess I'm joining the crew. I look forward to learning more here and hopefully helping out others with advice if possible.

The irony is I'm also very interested in psychology, specifically neuroscience, biological psychology and developmental...so half of me is sipping on tea and reading up about synapses in a very civilised manner and the other is having a hissy fit because my partner didn't put a kiss at the end of his latest text.

I've had several mental breakdowns, the most recent being the most severe. This led me to finally reach out for medical assistance. For now the best I have been offered is Citalopram, so I'm a couple of weeks into that journey at the moment. It feels alright but I yawn too much now.

Sorry about the essay, thanks for reading guys. 8)

Forgot to mention that GAD and PTSD have been mentioned by doctors in the past but I don't think I have either. I guess misdiagnosis is quite common for PDs.

Allo! I'm EvGoddess. Also in my 20s. I'm undiagnosed with BPD but 100% sure I have it. I'm working on getting assessed and started therapy with a new therapist to work on my problems a few weeks ago.

Irony? Nah. I think to be good at psychology, you have to have some true experience with it. My friend is struggling with really bad depression and he's on his way to applying to masters programs in psych. I've also considered looking into it - not to be a therapist, but to be able to teach it, since I'm going into education. Also, this paragraph made me laugh - that's totally me.

Really glad to see you here. If you ever need anything, PM me. Looking forward to seeing you around.

I agree. I think it's really quite common that those who are around mental illness (or suffer from one themselves) are interested by it.

I know I am. I would love to be a psychologist one day. First I need to fix myself, but hey, I figure if Marsha Linehan can do it I can too!
Anyways welcome
