Lateralus

Postby atomicuniverse » Tue Jul 24, 2012 8:17 pm

I was listening to a Tool song earlier called "Lateralus". They're one of my favorite bands, and this song in particular has drawn my for years. The song is actually inspired by the Fibonacci sequence. The timing is hard to pin down because it jumps around, but this video explains it pretty well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wS7CZIJVxFY

So wth does this have to do with having BPD?

It's inspiring to me because well, A: I'm a science nerd, B: I'm fond of the idea of the Fibonacci sequence, and C: This describes emotional evolution and growth in a way I haven't been able to articulate it before.

So here's the break down:

Black 1
Then 1
White are 2
All I see 3
In my infancy 5
Red and yellow then came to be 8
Reaching out to me 5
Let's me see 3

As below so above beyond I imagine 13
Drawn beyond the lines of reason 8
Push the envelope 5
Watch it bend 3

Anyways, you get the point.

This song has been an inspiration to me to continue fighting. Emotional growth doesn't always go in a straight line. It will ebb and flow, since that is the nature of life. And once we get past this, we will be better, more emotionally evolved and have a deeper understanding of the nature of things than most people do.
DX: "A fun mix"
RX: Prozac

"It's safe to cry here by the ocean; none will find you faulty. We well know that ages ago: the sea was already salty."

Cool...I play this on my guitar all the time, along with most of their other songs. When I practise singing I just pray that one day my voice will crack open in some magical way, and start sounding like Maynards.

Oh but yes, I find a number of their songs are good for this. Some of the older ones are a little more aggressive. The newer stuff is less hostile, and more thought provoking.

Bugger! And they dont sell his wine where I live!! I'd like to try some! I live in Canada, and I have to travel the next province over to get the wine.

Atomic, I must say, that's pretty cool. As Shakespeare so eloquently summed it up, "though this be madness, yet there be method in't."

Really? You live in Ontario, where we have more wineries than people, and you're complaining that a wine isn't available here?! There's just no pleasing some people! Image
